Default TMI Question for the Doc

Hey Doc, I have a pretty gross question, Today when I had a BM there was blood in the toilet, I figured it was from my hemroids but nothing hurt, well I took a nap and got up went to the bathroom, urinated and then wiped and blood was on the TP, it was from my rectum, do you think its something to freak out about or is it just prob from hemroids? BTW the roids dont hurt at all

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

becka, let your surgeon know just in case. Any GI bleeding, you should have checked out. Not to scare you, but I've seen one too many patients who figured the bleeding was from hemmorhoids, and figured wrong.

Becka - I am so glad you asked this question because I experienced the same thing yesterday but was afraid to ask. I thought that it was more blood than what I had experienced before but there was not evidences today.

Doc - In your experience, if there was a complication, would it not be an ongoing thing or could it start and stop?

It could start and stop. However, even if there is some chronic, or needs to be diagnosed/treated condition, the symptoms can come and go for a long time, before the person decided to get it checked.

Granted, I do think hemorrhoids are the most probable, given the history, still, since it's within one year of surgery, it's best to confirm that it's just that, and not miss anything else.
The tried but true, better be safe than sorry.

I hope all goes well, I know I still get bleeding sometimes but I had nine hemorrhoid's removed and even eight years later I still get bleeding sometimes if I am not careful. (Scar tissue I believe) Let us know when you get more info.

I had this happen a couple of months out from surgery. It was the first time I had actually blood in the bowl of the toilet. I freaked out and called my surgeon. He told me sounded like 'roids. And if it didn't stop in a day to call him back. Well I thought for sure he was wrong, no pain but... after the bleeding stopped the 'roids swelled up and I got the pain. It was a case of them breaking open and giving me relief. He told me if it got too bad we could look at surgery. Thankfully they subsided like they always do.

I'm hoping this is the case with you Becka. I am remembering before surgery you had a similar problem after a BM.

Jeane,
You are right I have had problems even before surgery with my roids, but this wasnt painful so I was worried, luckily it was just a fisher(sp) and all is well. I still have several roids but they havent given me trouble in awhile thank goodness
