Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I just saw the segment on 60 minutes on WLS.

Very well done. Only one discouraging word regarding total weight loss (that in "most" cases, 1/3 total weight is lost in the long term...i.e. the 300 pounds won't get to 199), but totally encouraging especially in the treatment of diabetes. They didn't distinguish type 1 from type 2, which bugged me a bit.

In other countries (Brazil was specifically mentioned) they are doing duodenal bypasses (keeping the stomach, but sectioning off at the duodenum and bypassing to the jejunum) on normal weight patients with diabetes. FDA does not allow that surgery for any reason beyond cancer removal now (in USA).

They are trying to get the FDA to begin to approve gastric bypass at much earlier stages in obesity treatment, since now, nationally, the mortality is 1:1000.

The best part...DH watched it, came down and said, "Looks like a good idea."

yay! someone on my side!

I completely missed it. My mother in law sent me an email about it and I had intended to watch, but my kids kept me pretty busy up until it was time to go to bed. Maybe they'll do a rerun.
