Son wanted lunch and he came and picked me up from work...I ordered a small bourbon chicken on toasted wheat. I ate more bread in that one sitting that I've had since surgery and now I FEEL GUILTY AS SIN!!!!
It was toasted...and I only ate a few bites, then ate the rest of the chicken with a fork. GOOD LORD...I thought I had sworn off bread. I don't know what feels worse. Knowing I ate it, or that I actually COULD eat it. I hate that when I do this, it puts off a whoosh for yet ANOTHER day....I'm gonna have to do double time at the gym tonite....and I'm tired, but now I HAVE to go...no choice in the matter...
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, somebody slap me...I know I won't gain 120 pounds back just from this incident, but you worry about old habits creeping back in.....I swear, sometimes, this is the hardest thing I've ever done...it's a constant battle & I've been so committed, and you'd think I could live with an occasional slip....I just want to be sick........ |

I know what you mean. When I do something like this it feels like the whole plan is in danger of blowing up. It is scary because it feels like all the bad habits are just lurking barely outside of view and the second I let my guard down, they wil pounce on me and everything will be ruined (Wow, pretty scary thought).
I worry to about what will happen as I am able to eat more regular food. Bread was my biggest downfall and is the thing I miss the most, but I cannot stomach it yet. I get sick on even a little piece of tortilla, thank goodness. I don't want to find out I can eat it. Too dangerous.
You will get past this. Stay away from the demon white bread. At least you knew enough to eat only a little and then you went for the protein. This shows you know what to do and you make yourself do it. You will be fine. Before the journey you probably would have had the whole bun and some chips and soda to go with it (I know I would have)
You are doing great and always inspire me. Thank you.

Kath - I feel your pain. It's not so much the bread, but what it symbolizes. But to make things easier on yourself mentally, maybe don't swear off bread forever. Say to yourself that you can have one or 2 bites of the right kind of bread once in a while so you never have to feel deprived. I haven't had any cravings yet, but I don't think I'm going to swear off any food because one bite of something won't kill me or ruin my diet, but the thing that scares me is as soon as I swear off something, I'll want it! So it's the whole - 'you want what you can't have' adage. So far saying I can have one bite has stopped me from craving anything. Hopefully this keeps working!
But you're doing great and going to the gym will make you feel better!

Listen, I know how important is to maintain the discipline, but remember you are human also this was a one day event, and besides remember you can eat almost everything you want with moderation, I think that our condition before was not a punishment nor after the surgery was a sentence. I believe we used a technique to resolve a discipline problem that most of us had.. dont be hard on yourself enjoy everyday you will do great....

Don't dwell too much on the fact that you have eaten something you have made "forbidden" but overcome this hurdle and move on. To Err is to be human. I know that one taste can lead to a multitude of sins believe me, I've been there but it is how you "recover" that truly matters. You are so awesome and such an inspiration. How about I send my trainer over LOL?
