Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have had a lot of swelling and water retention in my legs and feet also the past 2 weeks. I am not even 3 months out and have only lost 1lbs in 2 weeks. I have been trying to push as much water as possible and the more i drink the bigger my feet get!! No Wooshing here either. I just tell myself as soon as this water retention goes away I will drop like 3lbs. I have been eating well and working out 2.5-3.0 miles a day. I have to drop soon...right????

| Super Moderator | Every one loses differently. Don't fret. If you lose one lb in 3 days, that's 10 lbs per month. 10lbs per month for 12 months is 120lbs. How does that sound? The emotional ups and downs come with this journey. It's as much a mind game as a physical trip. If you fret with the scale numbers, it will make this journey more difficult that it actually is, when it already is not an easy journey. Just stick to your surgeon and nut's program, and everything will turn out fine in the end. A quarter of your excess weight gone in one month is exemplelary. Remember, you are expected to lose half of the total weight you expect to lose in the first 6 months--according to your stats, that means aobut 75 lbs for you, and you have already lost more than half of the 75. You're doing very well. Also, being one month out means that your insides are still healing, and adjusting to the new layout. If you force your body to lose more weight than at the pace it is setting, that can be harmful. I can understand your frustration, but let your body lose at its own pace, your body knows what's best in terms of keeping you healthy while you lose rapidly. ((((((((HUGS))))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | You have done a fantabulous job, Emily. I am worried about the fainting feeling/dizzyness you mention. How many grams of protein/day are you getting? Keep a diary, please. You may not be getting enough protein to sustain you. 80-100 gms is what I have been taught. calorieking.com has research tools for foods that includes protein.

| Super Moderator | Hmm. Quite honestly, this number seems a bit high. Most surgeons say 60g per day. 100g is about the upper limit for a regular person. According to physiology textbooks, the turnover rate of protein is about 35-50g, and taking absorbtion into account, these textbooks recommend that the intake should be about 50-75g per day. This amount varies with the person's stature (in other words, the larger you are, the more you need--100g per day is about the amount a 6' 2" person at regular weight would need) so the 60g requirement from the surgeon is a reasonable number. However, as with everything else, do as your surgeon says. About the dizziness, if you are taking blood pressure meds, be sure to check your blood pressure at least every few days, because it will come down as you lose weight, and you will need less medication, or none at all. Also, if you feel faint or dizzy during exercise, it may be that you are getting dehydrated while exercising, so be sure to have a bottle of water with you whenver you exercise.
