| How Much of a Loss?
I have a question. First of all, I am so excited. I am only 3 pounds away from hitting a weight that begins with a "1". I haven't been there in years. I can hardly believe it.
I was thinking this weekend that I only have 37 pounds to go to reach my goal. That seems so much more obtainable than 114 pounds to go when I first started.
My question is, my ideal weight on those little weight charts is 137 (which I think is absolutely obsurd). But, don't you lose most of the excess weight (weight over ideal weight according to those charts). What I'm wondering is, will I lost down below 165 and then put a few pounds back on or what?

Everyone Is Different. Some Do Gain A Little Back Which Is Expected And Then I Know Some People Who Have Never Gained One Ounce Since They Made Goal 2 Years Ago.

Edie, I know everyone is different. That's one reason I hated asking such a goofy question, but I'm just wondering what to expect. About how long does a person lose weight before they stop losing?

Dawn, does that mean that you only lose down to your goal and then gain a little back or do you lose down to the "ideal" body weight according to those little charts and then gain a little back?

"Ideal" weight often causes misconceptions and unnecessary confusion.
The weight that equals BMI 22, is, in the medical community, called "standard weight" not ideal.
Actually, preferable weight is a range, rather than an exact number, and that range is the weight that will put your BMI between 24.9-18.5.
"Excess weight" is the weight that puts your BMI at 25 and over.
Say, if 115lbs puts you at BMI 22, and 130lbs puts you at BMI 24.9, then if you are 135lbs, that means that your excess weight is 135-130=5lbs, not 135-115=20lbs.
The goal weight should be set at where your BMI is 24.9, not 22. Some weight gain is expected, so, if you take that into account, your end point should be hovering around BMI 24.9.

Take any future surgeries into consideration, as well. I know I probably have anywhere between 10-20 pounds of skin to be removed. That will be me below goal, but give me room for any bounce back. I read someplace last week...most RNY patients gain about 10% of the weight back....(it said most, NOT ALL). I think if you continue to eat healthy, you should be able to maintain!

Thanks everybody. I was just wondering if I would keep losing weight for about the next 5 months. I thought I remembered hearing that you would definitely lose weight during the first year.
