Default Need some insight Ladies !

My wife and I were having lunch today and she mentioned to me that she was thinking about having surgery . Now my wife is a full figured ladie but I also think shes classy beautiful and sexy and I consider it a blessing from God that shes my wife !!

My wife suffers from some "comorbesities " , such as foot and joint pain but she has no heart problems or HP . I basically told her that it was her choice and I would stand by her no matter what ! The only problem is I think shes only doing it because things are going alright for me . She dosnt realize that its a tool and you got to help yourself also by a life change of diet as well as excersise .Dont get me wrong...I love my wife with all my heart but I really dont think she realises the life time commitment this is . You cant just lose the weight and start eating like you did before...! I think if she diets and excersices ...she would be fine ..but she thinks the sergury might be for her . I would appretiate some opinions here ladies....Am I just worrying to much ?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

This is a tough one. She does see what you go through, right? Has she gone to any meetings or seminars with you? Maybe she could start there and see if this is right for her. And if she decides to go through with it, she couldn't have a better coach or role model!

Don't know what to tell you, just follow your instincts. Knowing that you love her so much, I am sure you will handle it well. Besides, it is a long way from thinking about it to actually getting approved for the surgery.

I guess I would just like tosay she would "truly" want to have it for the right reasons. She should evaluate her reasons. Hope I said this ok..... Kathy

Jerry how many times was we told this same thing? Perhaps your wife is different and can. Then again she may be like us before and just cant. I know your thinking of eveything you thought before surgery and would love to protect her from that.
My advice on this would be to just listen to her for a while and she what else she has to say about things. See WHY she wants it done. You know its a struggle with our ownselfs to make the decision to do it. I wont deny if my hubby said he wanted it done I wouldnt be fearful of it either just because of my history with it.

Its tough my friend.......... I have a little brother that would greatly benefit from it but I would encourage him to diet and excerise first myself.

I think you should be honest with how you feel and give her information or take her to a seminar so she can see what exactly this journey entails. She may decide on her own that it is not for her or vice versa. Just be supportive that's all.

I agree with Kelly and Vickie. Listen to her, and direct her to pre op seminars, even if she's gone to them with you. Let her listen to the seminar with a new perspective-- is this for me? Standing by you, and going for the ride herself are two different things.
Other than seeing how this works for you, it may be that she is having her insecurity issues, no matter how much you tell her you love her. You are going out more, to the gym, have gone back to work, are more active than you have been the past few years. Even though you don't change on the inside, the outside change can be scary for her, and may make her feel that if she doesn't keep up with you, she will lose you, and so feels the need to do something about herself.

One way might be to ask her to wait until you are at goal and maintainig before she makes any definitive moves. Tell her, you aren't against her having the surgery but could she wait until you are at your goal and maintainig, as you know how hard this can be, especially early out, so you want to be in tip top shape yourself, so you can give her your all in supporting her. That if you are still in the losing stage, and you get some bumps during the ride, you may not be able to give her the attention she needs and deserves when sshe is on her own journey. That will give her time to watch the whole of the process, and do her own research, and make the right decision for the right reasons.

(((((((((HUGS)))))))) May you two always have the best that life can offer.

I agree with eveyone here. She has first hand expeience watching how you go threw the process. My mind was made up when my daughter had it done and how she did after surgery. She would make the foods that she ate and gave them to me to try. So I knew what kinds of foods that I would have to eat and what foods that I would have to stay away from. I wanted the surgery so bad becasue I was having so many health issues and I saw how my daughter did and she had lots of health issues to before surgery and she lost almost all her health issues. I watched her shrink down to the person she is today and she is much happier now that she lost all that weight and she has so much energy now. Before surgery my husband and I went to some support meetings and my husband had more questions than I did. I am happy that he went with me and got all his questions answered by people who had the surgery, other than my daughter. Before surgery I thought I could eat so many foods and my daughter tried to explain it to me but she always told me that I will find out what it is like once I have the surgery. You can tell someone and hear it from someone but once the surgery is done than we really know what it is like, but at least we were prepared for it and kinda knew what to expect. Like I said many times I would do it over in a heart beat becasue I had so many health issues. Like Docsanae said if she decides to do it is to wait till you are at goal becasue she is going to need all your support to help her out and not have to worry about getting there yourself. You need to work out all your issues and you need your wifes support right now to get to goal. I think you are doing an awesome job and you will be at goal in no time. Keep up the great work.

Jerry,
She may have been looking for reassurance that you still like the way she looks. I think many spouses start wondering if we're going to leave them once we get skinny. Or they worry that we find them unattractive. Let her know what you said above, that she's beautiful just the way she is.

If she tells you she's not happy looking the way she does, then support her all the way with the surgery. You know how long it ususally takes to get it so I wouldn't wait until you reach goal, but get started on the journey with the intention that she'll get her surgery about the time you reach goal.

Good luck. We women can be hard to figure out. ;o)
