One of the reasons I am having surgery is because of my diabetes. I am hoping it goes away. My doctor says there is a really good chance it will be gone. Has anyone else had diabetes pre-surgery and it is now gone?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I didn't have diabetes, but my husband was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in January. He changed his eating habits and has lost 45 pounds. His blood sugar level has gone from almost 500 to 88.

Oh yeah.......I was put on meds 5 months pre op and taking off of them 2 days before surgery. My 3 months labs showed my A1C at 5.6.....Taada, no longer considered a diabetic. A very nice feeling.

That was also one of my reasons for surgery. My mom suffers terrible with neuropathy in her legs and feet and I told myself NO WAY JOSE.

I stopped taking all meds the night before surgery and havent had any since...BP and Diabetic! I was talking to my surgeons ARNP last week and he told me that there is now some discussion that this IS a cure for diabeties and there are some that are doing these type of surgerys on persons that are not overweight but just to get rid of the type 2 diabetes. Isnt that just amazing???

Here to! They called mine prediabetes. However in the hosptial mine shot through the ceiling really bad and was placed on insulin for 7 days. This was because of a complication. Anyways.... I was on meds before surgery and 7 days after I was complety med free for it. Some are calling it the cure for diabetes. If not the cure it sure helps resolve alot of the issues. I know there are a couple here that were on insulin and im sure they can shed alot of light on this subject. Our own Doc Sanane specializes in this field also. Im sure she will be along soon.

Data says over 80% of type II Diabetes is resolved. This is said to relate to the resolution of insulin resistance, so you can't expect the same with type I Diabetes. Also, for those with a stronger genetic tendency than usual, it may not be resolved completely but the medication needed decreases dramatically with these cases as well.

I know there's talk of doing this surgery as a complete cure, but there is no long term study done on this, so it's too early to consider it a "cure". Medically speaking, it's better to call it a "remission". If you think you are "cured", you may go back to old habits that bring back insulin resistance. If you think you are only in "remission" then you know you need to stick to good habits to keep it that way.
Here's a llnk to a good article discussing this. Be sure to read it carefully through to the end.
Bariatric Surgery is not cure for diabetes.
