Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | After almost a year of preparation and waiting, the day has finally arrived for my surgery - tomorrow. I am a little anxious. Please pray that everthing goes well. I need some advice. What are some good protein drinks (recipes please) that I can start with when I come home from the hospital? Will I be hungry? That is what I am mostly afraid of - that I will want to eat like before. Does this happen and how do I handle it? Thanks everyone.

| Terry, first of all, I'm wishing you an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery. I can almost promise you that you won't be hungry after surgery. I can honestly say that I haven't truly felt hunger yet since I've had surgery. After surgery, you will just be focusing on getting in your water and do exactly what the doctor tells you to do. Let us know how things go as soon as you can. GOOD LUCK!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Terry, Go to the vitamin store and tell the clerk that you are having WLS and you need a "clear" protein supplement. "Isopure" is one brand. Ask if they have protein "bullets"..clear protein flavored, that you can add water. That is what I did. Don't buy too much (like I did. LOL) because after a couple days out of the hospital, someone can drive you to the store to buy more supplies. Also, my surgeon said I could take Carnation Instant Breakfast with Splenda (it is advertised as "low carb" or "low sugar" or "no sugar added"...I don't remember which) and use water instead of milk, for that first week. Sugar free jello. They will feed you that at the hospital, too Diet cranberry juice cocktail. You will NOT feel hunger for about a week. When you do feel hunger, notice what time it is and smells around the house...it will probably he head hunger, which was not properly introduced to me until I encountered it and brought it up here in the RR boards. Have water bottles at the ready in every room in your house. Have someone keep them full. lol Post as soon as you are home, vertical, and able!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I sent you a pm with my number in case you ever wanted to call someone. I live in Granite City, so we're pretty close!! Who's your Dr? I had Dr. Wagner, thru Newstart and he didn't have me doing the shakes until a week after. I was on clear liquids for 1 week after surgery then went to full liquids for 2 weeks after that (if I'm remembering correctly). Alot of times that first week your pouch just can't handle too much. Please keep us updated!!! WOOOO HOOOO It's almost here!!!!!!! It's SOOO exciting everytime someone goes in. We re-live that feeling over and over again thru you newbies!!! I'm so excited for you!! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My doctor is Dr. Eagon at Barnes Jewish Hospital where I will have the surgery. My weight loss program was through Washington University. I think my diet plan is clear liquids the first week, 4 weeks of pureed food, 2 weeks of soft food and then regular food as tolerated. A couple of people I work with went to Dr. Wagner. They liked him a lot. My primary care doctor wanted me to see someone at Barnes so that is how I found Dr. Eagon. Two more hours at work and then home and then go to bed and get up at 4:00 to be at the hospital by 5:30 a.m. and then surgery at 7:30 a.m. Thanks for your advice. I might be calling you next week or (sooner). My husband is really supportive on this adventure.
