Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass |  my turn to vent,,,, hello all, First off let me begin by saying,,I am normally a very nice person. I am tactful,polite , caring ,and what i consider to be a good person.UNTIL TODAY!!   .......I went to get my haircut this morning. I just went into one of those places where they cut your hair for 15 bucks. There was the hairdresser {whom i know as she cuts my hair everytime} and the receptionist. So my hairdresser says "wow look at you you have lost a lot of weight...you look great" Then she asks me what i have been doing to lose the weight. For me, being honest works and its what i have been comfortable with from the get go,,so I said i had gastric bypass in January. WELLLLLLLLLLL,,the receptionist{who is heavy herself pipes in,,"OH you took the easy way out" then proceeds to tell me she would love to get it done. WELLLLLL my blood started to boil...I said this is ANYTHING but easy.. to which she replied thats not what she had heard. SOOOO MEAN ME WAS RELEASED.. I said "well why don't you go get it done you certainly look like you would qualify for it,,, and then you can let me know how "EASY" it is!!!!!! I think i threw her for a loop because she just walked away and said nothing more . Part of me feels MEAN and part of me feels like i stood up for all the people who struggle and adapt to life after surgery. I just wanted to share..its bothered me all day what she said,,, and bothered me even more that I was so mean to someone who was just being ignorant,,, THANKS FOR LISTENING!

I doubt it's worth your time, but maybe she is struggling herself and could use someone to explain the pros and cons of this choice. Otherwise, chalk it up to another ignorant person and don't worry about the way you reacted- sounded appropriate to me!

And then on top of it, we feel bad about defending ourselves back!?! Don't feel bad. Even someone who is ignorant to WLS should still keep their mouth shut. And like I've said before, the stupid/mean/rude comments people say are usually to deflect something they hate about themselves and said to make themselves feel better. In some ways, there are moments when it is easy. For ex: eat the wrong thing = puking. Simple. Easy desicion. Do I want to throw up or not? Of course, there are many times over that it is darn hard! I think it's time we start confronting people who say stuff like that. It's the only way to change the way people think & if we dont correct them, then who will? So how'd the hairdresser take it?
