Approved!!

I just got approved for surgery and scheduled a surgery date of Aug. 30th!! I'm so excited I just had to get on here and tell someone! The date could change depending on if work gives me a hard time about the time off, but it's definitely just a matter of time now.

Guess I'm a little freaked out too now that I think about it

. Is that normal? I haven't told any family or friends yet that I was even thinking about doing this so I think it's going to come as a shock to them. Any advice for telling people?

My advice is sit them all down at once, tell them that you have researched this surgery, have some material that they can read up on it and let them know you are not asking for their approval, just their understanding. Not everyone is going to agree with your decision and this is very normal. We all go through it and it is very normal to be nervous. If you weren't nervous, I would say you weren't normal!!!

Congratulations! You will be on the loosing side very soon.

Congratulations, Sloopy. I know you will do really well.

Apart from my husband and kids, and a few local friends, I did not tell anyone, even my mom, until after. I really did not want to deal with so many opinions/questions/etc. right before. I too got my approval very close to my date, and for me it was too close to start telling everyone. Plus, I did not want my 82 year old mom worrying about me.

Good luck to you, and let us know when you tell your family and what they have to say about it.

Yup, it's perfectly normal to be nervous, you are in for one heck of a ride, but it will all be worth everything!!

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone!

I just told my parents the news and they were very supportive (either that or they were just too in shock to say anything negative

). Next up is work tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I am glad your parents and they were supportive. When I told my mom about a week after my surgery, she was very happy that I took control and did something about my weight and my health. She was great.

Keep posting with updates as you go through your tests and doctors' visits. Just think, in about 2 weeks, you will be on the losing side!!!!

Congratulations on the date Sloopy. I am sure everything went well at work today. Your date may seem far away, but that time will fly. I am glad you are so close to your new way of life.
