| Head Hunger I think
I am now 7-1/2 weeks out of surgery. I have lost 38 lbs. I would like to know if this amount of weight loss is considered to be a good amount to have lost. Can any let me know.
Also, another question. My husband and I used to love to go out to eat. Now I don't enjoy it because my eating habits have changed. Has anyone else experienced this?
Also, a lot of the time when I eat, it hurts. I am eating very small bites and chewing well. I sometimes feel bad afterward, but I have not thrown up at all. Am I on the right track?

Sounds like you are following in the foot steps of every post-oper! LOLOLOL
Def been there!
The weightloss will come off as it does...no 2 people are alike and lose alike. Just take it as it comes and it will amaze you!!! I promise!
Even though you are almost 2 months, you are still healing so just listen to what your body says, if it hurts, stay away from it for a while and try it again later. I am 11 months and still can NOT eat boiled eggs...doubled over in pain type thing!

you sound like you are doing good, you will have stalls here and there. It's been about 13-14 months since surgery and I found out the hard way i cant stomach carrots.(painful) Yea, eating patterns do change, everyone is different. I stalled for a very long time and in the last 6-8 weeks dropped another 18 lbs.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I can eat anything so far, but if I forget and eat large bites, it really hurts or if I eat too much. I am trying to be good but I have my moments............ Is there any way to learn to eat slower and smaller bites? How do you handle going out to eat? The pleasure is just not there anymore and I know it effects my husband but he is too nice to say so.

Thank you for replying. I am still having mental anguish I guess. I want the weight to drop off like water and it is slow. I have had a couple stalls but then I lost weight. I am down 2 sizes. Any advice for going out to eat?

If you are having that hard of a time, I would suggest that you switch to a baby spoon/fork. I used that entirely in the beginning. I also cut my meat before I sit down to eat and cut it up into pieces as I would for a 2 year old. LOLOL It really does help.
When my husband and I go out to eat, we always order an appetizer and 1 meal. Sometimes they have a "share charge" sometimes they dont. It is just easier to pick from my husbands plate then to order a whole meal and take a few bites. It is so much cheaper now! LOLOLOL We even do that when we go out to eat at a Hibachi Grill.

I tried the baby food sppon only a few times and just couldnot handle eating off such a small spoon, but I know there are a few that do use a baby spoon. Now when it came to water, I used a sippie cup for a long time, becasue I was a gossler before surgery and had to learn to drink small amounts and slower. Now with the chewing part, if I would not chew my food well enough it would hurt going threw my pouch and it was painful, so I learned in a hury to chew chew before swallowing and another thing I learned is to concentrate on my chewing. What happened to me one time was I was visiting with my son and trying to eat meatloaf at the same time and did not chew it up good enough and swallowed to early, boy did that ever hurt and I almost puked it all up(sorry for the gross words). After that episode I learned to concentrate on my chewing and make sure it was small enough before swallowing anything.
Now as for going out to eat, it took me a long time to go out and eat at a restraunt, becasue we felt that my eating amounts was so tiny and that I would not enjoy it there anyway, so I took food for me along many times and hubby ordered some food at a fast food place for himself. Now when we go out to eat, I found out that McDonalds works the best for me as far as a fast food place goes. I usually order chicken nuggets, which seems to agree with me the best there, and the other place is Hardees and I eat the mushroom burger without the bun. Now if we go to a restraunt, I always end up asking for a container to take half my food home with me. That does not bother me one bit to ask for a container, but I get a kick out of the waitresses, becasue they look at me strange, like they would be thinking that as big as I am that I should not have a problem getting it all down. Now I have mentioned it to some waitress that I had gastric bypass and just cannot eat all that food and all of them were so nice about it and very understanding about it all, in fact they even helped me pick out food that did not have so much on a plate, that was very helpful to me. But I do understand, but I am sure your hubby understands to and in a few months it will be much better to eat out with hubby and family. They will all understand when you have to take most of your food along home, I look at it as a meal before I go to bed. My 6th meal of the day. Or I just save it for a meal for the next day. I am suppose to get in 6 meals a day and can be very hard to do sometimes, but I try so that I get in my protein. I really do understand how you feel right now and in time it all get better, and this all comes second nature to you. You are doing great and keep up the good work.

Thanks Kim. That is what we are trying now. I guess eventually I will get it all together. I just feel so depressed now and I never have been depressed before. I just can't get my mind around it all. Have a good day!

Thank you Diana. I feel better now. I am just so tired. I am also having some heart problems and I think that is bothering me quite a bit at this time. I see a cardiologist on Wed. afternoon. I think part of the problem right now with eating is I am really too extremely tired to think of good meals and I just eat whatever. My husband tries to cook but a lot of times I am just too tired to eat. Thanks for your kind words.
