Default Sun Protection rant

As I posted yesterday, I went w/my B&G Club kids to a pool yesterday. We were there from 11-3:30.
Over half of the kids were sent by their parents w/no sun protection applied at home or carried along.!!! I was amazed. One kid even had a sun-burn from the weekend. He told me he had been at the lake all day last Sat. w/his family but didn't use any sun-screen. I asked him why not. He said his folks didn't have any. The kicker is... they were on a poker run!!! Yikes!
Fortunatly, I had #50 and asked them to all slather up (and supervised) before getting into the pool. I had the girls and the boys make their own circles and everyone did each others backs. No sun burn on my watch.
What are people thinking? How could they be so careless with their children? I don't understand.
Anyhow, it just makes me more aware of how little common sense some people have. When it comes to kids, don't be afraid to ask questions, if you think something doesn't seem normal. You can't assume that they are being "taken care" of.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That was really wonderful of you Kat. The world, she's a changing...and not always for the best. But having people like you that take the time, moments like that keep it from going completely to crap.

That poor child will end up with skin problems later in life. It is very important to wear sunscreen especially during peak hours. My husband who retired from the
Army had developed a spot on his nose that his MD thinks is skin cancer. He goes to the dermatologist on Monday. All those years in the Army and plus being a farm kid from WV had something to do with it I'm sure.

The job he does now he is in and out of the sun and he usually never wears sunscreen. Guess what he came home with the othe day??? Yep SPF 30.

I am from AZ and I see this ALL the time. Parents think it's cool when their kids have a great tan. I can tell you, my kids wear sunscreen every time and they are still very tan, so obviously they are still getting lots of rays.

I worked outdoors for years, as a carpenter in commercial construction in southern CA. No sun protection, except for a hard hat. I've had a standing appt. with the skin doctor about every 8-9 months for inspections. I've had some growths removed by the skin doctor surgically, on my back and chest. These areas were protected with a shirt though. I've also had area frozen on my head, and I have a small "divet" in my forehead where some skin was removed for sampling. No cancer to date, but my doctor was worried on more than one occasion. DAVE

I have been against sunning ever since I was a teen and got sun poison. I was so sick and sore for two weeks I never did that again. And when I found out by the dr how bad the sun was for me I decided I didnt care if I was fair a tan wasnt for me. And now jump ahead 35 years and look at my face and you can see that I never abused my skin. I know ppl my age that have twice the wrinkels I do. I still take care of my skin and all my kids. My middle girl is fair like me and after years of drilling she doesnt sun either. Now on to my little one she is half fillipino and I can and do put spf sports 50 on that girl and she still tans in 15 min its amazing. I still make sure if they are in the pool and the sun is strong they get covered. They prefer to swim in the later part of the day when the sun is only partially on the pool. Smart girls..lol.. And as for the kids that didnt have any on well my girl and neice always wear their helmets and we have neighbors who let their boys that are the same ages as our girls ride without their helmets. And omg these 6 and 8 year old boys have their own fourwheelers and drive around here like little bats out of heck I am just waiting for the crash. They sit in the fron they are strapped but they are sitting in the front strapped and it is all I can do sometimes to not say somehting, all you can do is what you did and that is help out when you can. ( I got the one boy to stop peeing in the yard in front of all of us by telling him that we have two girls and they have seen him pee outside and want to know if he is still a baby..lolol well he never did it again)
