NYS is trying to issue a hiring freeze on state employees. Roswell Park is a state facility. I went for the interview back around Memorial Day and I was hired, but my start date isn't unit spetember. I have the packet of info and papers, was given my salary and an appointment for my physical when I go home next monday. Will this effect me or am I already hired technically? I think I am, but of course, I worry.
Any human resources people out there who knows how the whole hiring thing goes?

My guess is you'll have to wait and see. You'll either get an official notice by mail of the hiring freeze, or if not, you should be able to go to work. The hiring freeze may be for any future employees at that time--so you may technically still be hired. You'll have to get more details on the hiring freeze to know immediately. DAVE

I just wish I would have known about this earlier today, I would have called then. I know I can call in the morning, but I don't see me getting much sleep tonight. This really sucks. I was just saying to someone that everything is starting to go right for me (except the last trailer thing) and I'm waiting for the bottom to fall out. I just pray this isn't my bottom falling out because I will be downright devastated and I won't be able to move home and I already gave up my son's spot in pre-school out here.
I was tipped off when my dad asked me if I was hired. I said as far as I know, yes, why? Then he told me and the articles don't really say much. I'm just gonna call tomorrow and ask if this does happen, will if affect me? Here I was worrying if I would get the $1 an hour raise they all got and now I all I care about is if I have a job or not.

I did get a whole packet of tax forms, medical health history, RN license info, holiday pay waiver form, etc...
The letter says,
Subject: New Employee Benefit Review/Pre-employment Physical
Please fill out the enclosed forms and bring them with you on Monday August 11, 2008. You are scheduled to meet with me and ...... Assistant Director of Employment, at 9:30am in room ......
Please bring two forms of Identification (Driver's License and Social Security Card/Birth Certificate) or a passport. Also please bring your RN License and your College Degree so I can make a copy for your file.
Then it closes. What do you think. I should find out really soon now. I took some Tylenol PM and was able to fall asleep eventually, but I'm all worked up again. Just more scared than anything.

Yeah, that sounds as though you have it then. I would still call them, but I dont see there should be anything to worry about at this point. They made you the offer and you accepted it. Is your state a right to hire/right to fire?
