| Back To Basics Bootcamp
The WLS Grads board has two threads about a 5 Day Pouch Test (created by Kay Bailey) and the 3 Day Liquid Protein Train (created by Susan Maria Leach). These are suggested for those who have gotten off track or addicted to carbs and are AT LEAST one year postop.
But, there are folks who get sidetracked BEFORE their one year surgiversary, and are encouraged to go back to basics. I thought it would be a great idea to start a thread just to remind ourselves what "back to basics" actually means. Let's all provide the rules that we remember so to help someone who might need a gentle reminder.
#1 Protein first - to me, this means food such as chicken, tuna, salmon, protein shakes, yogurt, foods with high protein content, low carbs, low sugar
#2 Moderate carbs - you do need some vegetables in your diet such as brocolli, green beans, etc. Try to stay clear of high carb vegs as these may hinder weight loss. *Make sure you have ingested the high protein foods such as meat first though. Don't fill up on salads as they are empty calories.
#3 Stay clear of simple carbs - such as pastas, breads, flour products, etc.
#4 Drink your 64 oz of liquid minimum per day.
#5 Journal your food intake.
Ok, would someone else like to add to the list?

Regular exercise daily, even if it is just walking.
If you are a few months out, and your surgeon has cleared you, then add on some resistance exercise as well, to build your muscle for a body that is more calorie efficient. |
