| Am I eating too much?
Aloha all,
I seem to eat alot now....2 1/2 monts post op. Had 1 cup broth soup with chicken bits....ate cooked veg with cheese 1/2 cup. and later ate 1/2 cup cereal with soy milk. Is that too much? If I eat 1 oz chicken...I struggle to consume that....but I cannot tell if I eat veggies or cereal etc. someone commented to me..."boy your appetite has increased...keep eating like that you'll be back to your big self". What do you all think?
Tonight , I ate too fast...and . So naturally I didn't eat much?
Am I consuming too much? How do I tell...they say that I'll know because I'll get full....??? kawahine

I think you are doing pretty much okay.
Have you checked out the What Did You Eat Today forum?
This thread should help you get an idea of how others are eating.
Members post their day's menu/intake in the daily threads.
You can tell how far out each person is by their stat column, so check out what others with surgery dates close to you are getting in, as well as those further out than you.
The most recent thread is the following. What are u eating? 9/17/2008 |

| I hate when people have to butt in when they really dont have a clue. And knowing me I would have said just that, and added what less then a 1000 cal a day is to much?? and what is it that you eat in a day..Dont let others upset you or make you worry, if you are worried keep a log so you can count your intake and you will see better that way just what you are eating.

It sounds like you are doing great. Just be sure you don't eat too fast. Good luck on your journey.

It'll be 3 yrs for me and I still think I eat too much at times. Just monitor how you feel while eating and remember to eat slowly. It's been my experience that your body goes through stages of eating more and then less.

it sounds like you are doing fine to me...just keep in mind that if you are eating things like soup, cereal, etc. you will be able to eat a little more due to the liquid and the fact that these foods are not that heavy...that is why when you are eating meat you cannot eat as much it fills the pouchy, it is much heavier!!

I have been questioning that too. I was told by my surgeon that my stomach should only be able to hold 4 oz or 1/2 cup of food. I have noticed that seems to be based on what I am eating. If I am eating soup or broth I intake about 8-10 oz. but soft solid foods I do good to choke down 4 oz. I was told by my nutrionist that seems to be normal.
Good Luck to you!!! |

| I too question this sometimes. I had the surgery 2/07 and was never told how many calories to intake. I was always told 3 bites of protein to 1 bite of fruit/vegetable. It took about 10 months for me to drop 127 lbs of weight. I think since I didn't have a base calorie intake to go by and I started to get mal-nutritious. My body started to shut down, having difficulty with my heart, eyes and my breathing and was have difficulty getting out of bed going grocery shopping then coming home wiped out and needed to take a nap. Back in March 08, my nutritionist told me that if I didn't start gaining weight I would have a feeding tube next month. Scared me, so I went by her recommendations as what to eat so I could gain some weight. I weighed 104 back then (for me I should be around 110 - 130) now I weight 116 and I feel awesome. They started having me to have 1,000 cal. a day, I kept losing, so then it went to 1,300 - 1,500 a day. Today I couldn't tell you how much I eat, but I weigh myself everyday as well as keeping a close eye on how my clothes fit. Last month I finally was healthy enough to start exercising, and feel awesome. Its been a long road, but one I had to travel to get where I am today. Getting back to the eating, I think sometimes it depends on how solid the food is and the protein content, because there are times that I eat varies of amount of food. There are times it seems like I eat all day long, especially during that time of the month, I just make wise decisions in my intake because of the volume of my intake for those couple of days of the munchies. Its great to get feedback from this site and the support is awesome. Make sure you talk with your nutritionist, because the two of you should have a close enough relationship to where he/she knows your situation. Best of luck. |

Mahalo!! (thanks)...to all of you!! This site really helps me more than my therapist in the program!! the response is REAL and from real experiences!!! Thanks to each of you...mrsvanessa,Doc Sanae, Donna, qt82699, kunipio, Christy 0283, and LadyLisa. I hate people looking at me as if I am under a microscope. Even friends watch how much I eat. (they don't say anything...but I guess they are curious about my size portions...so small).
I always leave this site with a smile =) ((((((Hugs to you all)))))
