Question Now what?

I got a message on my machine the other day from my surgeon's office telling me they faxed my paperwork and literally overnight they approved me for surgery. I am happy they approved me but at the same time I am up in the air of whether or not I am going to go through with it. I am starting to lean toward lapband but will they have to submit new paperwork? Will I have to do anything different? I am DYING with this diet. I am almost at 30lbs and the infinite creeping upward is starting. I must be going crazy because before my decision was as clear as night and day and now it has me going in circles.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I've been doing some of that too. I KNOW i'm going to have the surgery.. I'm not backing out... but there are times and days when I think... do I REALLY want this?? Do I REALLY want to change my body make up??

Want to know what keeps me going with my decision???

The thought that NOTHING I've EVER done before has worked. My will power, my determination, NOTHING by itself has worked for me before and I'm going to die like this unless I do something drastic. I need this tool to make it all work for me. I know it's not the end all/be all of weight loss and I'll need will power and determination. But with the added benefit of this tool, it'll be more doable for me and every pound I lose will be more motivation to keep going. Also looking into my kids eyes and knowing what kind of life I'll have with them without the surgery vs. what kind of life I'll have with them WITH the surgery and subsequent weight loss. The surgery WINS HANDS DOWN!!!!!!

It's a tough decision only you can make. Think about it, pray about it, discuss it with whomever you feel the need to, but only do it if you know 100% that it's the right thing for you.

I am kinda with Boots on this- but you do need to make your decision based on what makes you feel best.

I was not 100% sure I would have surgery- when they called me and scheduled it 2 weeks later I suddenly had NO hesitation. I just knew it was what I should do. And I am SO SO glad I did it! I wish I had done it earlier! Life is way too short to live it miserable, and I was miserable in many ways and didn't even know it.

I hope you come to terms with whatever decision it is you make. I know people who have done lap band, RNY, and those who have lost weight on their own and all have been happy with their decisions. You just gotta own it, whatever it is.

I know how hard this is, I originally was going to have the Lap Band done, but the more research I did the less I wanted it. I also have talked with people who have done great on the Lap Band but have talked to more people who wish they had the Gastric Bypass. Also I noticed last month that my surgeon had a sign stating that people who have had Lap Band need to know that unless you have Blue Cross/Blue Shield you must pay $100.00 for each fill needed in the Lap Band. Research what will be best for you--good luck.

This is how I explained my decision to not have lap band surgery. Now this was my view and I am not saying its right or wrong, just how I came to the realization that I needed to do Roen Y.

I felt that I was choosing to have a surgical alteration done on my body for the purpose of weight loss and improved health. If I chose the lap band I felt that my decision was not for the good of long term. The band can be adjusted or removed and is not without risks. So the thought was that it was a temporary fix and I did not need a temporary fix. I needed to make the commitment to my body by altering my digestive system so that no matter where or what I am doing, I must always be aware of what I am putting into my mouth and how it will affect me. I needed something permanent.

Make the decision best for you, and follow through. Its always scary undergoing a surgical procedure, but I will tell you there are very few people on this board regreting their Roen Y. And there are very few people not happy living in a healthier, stronger, thinner body... and enjoying all the perks that go with it.

best of luck

I needed the kind of projected weight loss from gastric that the band simply couldn't give me. Plus, my step sister had the band and completely failed. I had my surgery after her and passed up her weight loss in what seemed like overnight. She had to have the band removed. 2 in 4 of my surgeons patients are lap band revisions to gastric.....it just didn't promise the things that I needed to happen.

YOU are the only one who can decide.
((((((HUGS))))))

O.T: A few things about lap band.
1) It usually is not recommended for those who have over 100lbs to lose.
2) You need multiple refils to have it adjusted, and these refils are self pay with most insurances.
3) Lap band is a device--in other words, it is manufactured and marketed by companies--this spells big money, income-wise and PR-wise for those companies-- R en Y doesn't need a special device, only devices that are used in other surgeries as well, so doesn't spell that kind of money to the manufacturers.
