| I haven't been here in months...
...because I've been so depressed!
A recap to anyone who has forgotten: I had surgery as a part of a clinical trial on 6/4. I was 214 the day of surgery and got down to 186 in late August/early September. Since then I've done nothing but gain back weight. As of this morning I'm at 199. I'm frustrated beyond belief. On 9/8 they were unsuccessful in doing an endoscopy but were successful on 12/3. I found out more that day that they only reduced my stomach size by 30%...which isn't much, in my opinion. I feel like my eating has been the same as prior to surgery. All of my sutures are still intact so my stomach size hasn't changed since surgery. I go to the gym nearly every day. I don't understand the weight gain and my surgeon doesn't have much to say other than "keep at it!" If anything, I think I should be maintaining, not gaining. I work out more than I ever have in life...yet I continue to gain. I hate this. At this point all that changed is that I have six "stab wounds" on my abdomen which is a huge downer for me.
My theory: I turned 30 on September 12th and that was really one of the huge turning points. Damn my 30's! Blah!
On a side note...I'm sure Doc will be reading this. I wasn't able to tell you much about what they did in my surgery but I have the endoscopy pictures so if you'd like me to email them to you, give me an email address and I'm happy to send 'em your way so you can see what they did.

I have thought about you and was wondering how you were doing. I am sorry to hear that you are gaining back. Is it possible to go back and get RNY?

| I think I'd be disappointed too, after all you went thru. Are you following the same diet we do? Are you following the rules? I'd think it'd be really tough since there isn't as much restriction. At least with the working out you're healthier, right? Thanks for checking in; hope to hear from you regularly, the support can't hurt...

If it were possible for me to have the RNY, I would've instead of having this... I was denied by insurance 3 times so that's why I was accepted into the clinical trial since the sponsoring company paid for the whole thing (...and I'm paid $300). Medically speaking, yes, it can still be done...but without insurance, I can't.
You look AMAZING, by the way!

Well you know I was looking for you .
Sorry to hear that it didn't really work AND that they are still really not telling you/helping much. You pretty much had a bad time of this from the start, what with the pain and all.
Do you think maybe now the insurance would give in since you went through all this trouble and it didn't really change anything??

Yes, I basically follow the same "rules." Don't use a straw, don't drink with meals, blah blah blah... I think it's the size of my stomach still. I mean...what kind of a percentage do they reduce an RNY to? Has anyone heard of a number? In the pictures of my endoscopy, my stomach still looks enormous and when I heard it was only 30%...I was, quite frankly, pissed. Why did I even bother?

My insurance won't change. My employer basically doesn't cover the surgery.
Get this (slightly off topic but I'm still complaining about my insurance :P)... I got an IUD (Mirena) in November. In October at my annual appointment I talked with my gyno and felt this was my best option for birth control. I got approved from Medical Mutual on 11/13 for Mirena as it was deemed "medicall necessary." On 11/19, I got Mirena placed. I received my "explanation of benefits" from Medical Mutual a couple weeks ago saying I owe $1432 for Mirena! What?!? Don't send me a letter saying I'm approved then don't pay for it! What did they say? "We only approved that it was medically necessary, not that we'd pay for it." Seriously? You have GOT to be kidding me. So now I'm appealing their decision. Idiots.

whoa. youhave a lot going on here i am so sorry. i am not familiar with the procedure other than what you have stated in previous posts. i guess first question is, can you water load? there is a technique in the "pouch rules" that keeps a post oper full. i wonder if it would work for you too eventhough the size of your stomach is smaller....?
I have no suggestions really, like i said im not EXACTLY sure what you had done but i can see you are BEYOND frustrated at this point. im sorry.
i dont think an eob is to be viewd as an actual bill. did you get a BILL from the dr yet? but your insirance co's response sounds sketchy at best. i would wait for a bill from the dr and then send a copy of your approval to the drs office and let them fight it out.
i hope things get better for you sooner rather than later. please stick around for support if nothing else. i hope doc shows up soon. maybe she can help.
