| my first question
okay Im on the pureed food till my 4 week followup. I am doing fine with foods and have not thrown up yet and hope not to either. I notice when I am eating I have no "want" to eat. Therefore Im doing one of 2 things and I no this isnt good. I either aim to get in all my fluids or aim to get in all my food, I cant do both. If I compromise and do both I am only getting in about 20 oz of fluid, where as with the food I might get in 9 oz. I dont really feel hunger pains or full pains at all. They tell me its because the nerves in my stomach must reheal first. So tell me is this normal for everyone there first week out? I go for my first office visit on friday, I will be weighed in there, but just since I left for the hospital last tuesday I think im down at least 13.2 lbs!

WELL glad you came to post for help!!!
I know early out i never had the desire to eat.
BUT would eat and drink as i was instructed,
to the best i could.
THIS early out for you its not expected for you to meet
all your protein requirements and fluids will be hard too.
JUST do the best you can...eat your tiny meals...and sip
sip sip per your surgeons rules. AT your stage i was
only on liquids still so i guess i just had to sip sip sip.
IT gets easier in time to get in.
JUST relax and do the best you can.
(((((((((HUG))))))))))))
AND WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! 13 pounds
already isnt that awesome!!!

I'd advice you to get in your liquids first. You need to prevent dehydration. You body will be tapping what you have stored in you for "food" which will do the job for a while, but water, you need to get from the outside and daily.

I also say to get in those liquids as much as possible. Try to find a good protein shake you like or maybe Isopure, which has lots of protein. That way you can drink and still get in the protein you need at this point.
As far as not feeling hungry or feeling full, I think this is normal. I did not feel hunger for many months and didn't feel full for a few months too. So you just have to becareful and make yourself get in the nutrients you need. Don't stress on getting the full amount in at this point, you are only a week out. Over time you will be able to get in what you need.
Congrats on the first 13lbs gone FOREVER!!!!

I understand your water/food problem. I had the same thing... water/food? which one.... I started with the water and couldnt handle the protien shakes that soon after surgery... so I ate cream of wheat, very soft soft foods and lots of soups.. even to the point that I sipped like Lisa said and even used a spoon to get my water in....it does get better.... Post op I wasn't allowed anything but clear liquids. After 10 days I was allowed to add protein drink and my first meal was a slim milk and protein drink. Once I added protein I felt better almost overnight. I continued to consume at least 65 gms of protein every day, mostly liquid and sipped as much water as I could.
Hope this helped.

| Jessica!!! Wow...it's sooo great to hear from you...and wow on the 13.2! That is sooo great and exciting!! I agree with Lisa's advice....and do what you can...that protein will be critical for your weight loss...and the liquids - well...you can see why that is important...how would you get rid of your weight?? LOL. OH, about the NON HUNGER....I wasn't hungry until about 5.5mos!! So get ready....it takes a while for your hunger to come back. ALSO, be aware...if you start to think you are hungry...realize that mostlikely that is "HEAD Hunger"....I was amazed how often my 'head hunger' kicked in. For me I would make myself wait for 30min. if I experienced head hunger....(this of course was about 8 weeks out though - before that, I felt like I had to be consuming something every 15min.!!) I'm sooo glad you are back with us!! |

I am so happy to see your new avatar and hear that you have done so well already. I agree though that you shouldn't stress too much about getting everything in this early and that you should concentrate on your fluids to prevent dehydration. I know that my surgeon told me not to worry and that my body wouldn't starve itself as it adjusted and to just do what I could do, and let my body do the rest. Good luck honey and I hope all is well.
