Default just need to vent

So I need to Vent, I went to have my testing done this past Tuesday. Everything was going great until I got the call that my EKG came back a little abnormal… OMG what does that mean. So I was told I need to go have a stress test. I got the appt for Friday and I was told no caffeine and bring tennis shoes. “And that was it” Glad I decided not to eat this morning before my test. So I get to the office and wow I have never been to such a disorganized office in my life… A test that should have taken maybe 1.5 hours took 4.5 hours. Now I get to play the waiting game to make sure there is nothing wrong with my heart. My surgery is on the 6th and final Doctors appt is on the 27th. I just hope they get everything back in time. UGH thanks for letting me vent.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

God willing all will come out okay!!

It's so much better to know now than to have complications on the operating table... Sometimes we can get frustrated with all the damn tests that we have to go through, but in the long haul of things, its for the BEST!!!

Sorry you had a 4.5 office visit, that must have been terrible!!!
You'd think being Friday they'd want to get OUT of the office????

Glad this days over for your sake!!!
keep us posted on the result.
You are in my thoughts & prayers.

LOL,

Good grief ~ doesn't inspire confidence does it? I'm sure your doc's office will go after whatever results they have to ~ hang in there, I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel (contrary to popular opinion, this light has not been turned off!)

My EKG went real well until 3-1/2 minutes after, just before they unplugged the wiring, when the tech suddenly stopped talking to me and got up quickly to put her head together with the doc. They were talking in their professional "let's talk about bad news in front of the patient and pretend he can't hear us" low voices. Then the doc came over and cheerily told me that there was really nothing wrong, just a little glitch, but would I mind if they scheduled me in for, oh, as soon as you can make it for a three-hour test sequence? Fasting? Then he explained that it would be done using a radioactive tracer which they would inject and then have me expose some x-ray plates, yadda, yadda, yadda. All very routine. No problem. Unh-huh! Rightttttttt!

All very professionally cheerful and totally NOT confidence inspiring.

The day of the retest, I jumped through every hoop, suffered every procedure and indignity, and worked that poor treadmill until they got tired of watching me and turned it off. A week later they told me that I was in better condition than a fat old geezer like me would be expected to be in, the first test must have suffered a machine hiccup, and they wished me good luck with the surgery and please remember them for all my cardiac imaging needs in the future!

Keep your plans for the 6th. If you needed a quadruple bypass, they'd have already figured that out and you'd be in the ICU recovering by now.

Good luck!!

One time I was to start a new job, one I always wanted but needed to have medical exam including xrays. 3 days later I get a call from the clinic telling me something was wrong and I needed to have the xrays taken again the following week with no explanation why.

So for one very long and miserable week I sat there with what was 2 bad pieces of information. ONe that there may be something medically wrong with me and the second that I was likely not going to get the job I wanted.

I had the xrays and was told to wait in the doctor's office as he wanted to speak to me. The wait was agonizing.

The diagnosis: They needed to have the xrays retaken as they had a technical problem with the machine and the first set didnt turn out. I was in perfect health.

What would have been so difficult to tell you in the beginning and not make you wait?

Good luck I am sure you are in good hands and all this preop care is to make sure your surgery goes through smoothly.

PS if it was a problem with their equipment, kick the technician in the shins at least twice.

just remember that any tests that your doctor does will all be for your best health. i hadn't been to a doctor at all for probably 10 years prior to getting prepared for weight loss surgery. after my first visit i found out that i have high blood pressure - then found our that i have a heart arrhythmia. my new primary care physician had me checked out from top to bottom (haha literally even had a colonoscopy) ended up on two occasions having to spend the night in the hospital because of my heart - had a stress test where they use drugs to put you through the process rather than a treadmill, because of knees and hip pain. it is better to have everything checked out so that the doctors are prepared for you and any potential problems that occur during surgery. because of my heart arrhythmia my cardiologist had them to put me into a deeper sleep so that my heart would not be affected by the weight loss procedure.

I know exactly what you talking about. This is what happened to me. I was scheduled for surgery on a Monday Nov. 10th 2008. Well the previous Monday Nov 3rd I went in for my EKG.
Never thought anything else about it. Then on Friday Nov 7th at about 1:00 pm I got a call from my surgeons office telling me that my EKG came back abnormal so I would not be cleared for surgery on Monday until I went to see a cardiologist and was cleared. Now this was at 1:00 pm on Friday and my surgery was to be on Monday. I just broke down crying over the phone. I told them you must be kidding me I had been on the liquid diet for 10 days and my husband, my son and my nephew had all taken time off work to be at the hospital with me after surgery and now they are telling me if I want surgery on Monday I have to go see a cardiologist to get clearance before the end of the day. Talk about a total instant depression. I told them there is no way I can get a cardiologist to see me before Monday with it being so late in the day. So the lady must have felt sorry for me because she said let me see what I can do and I will call you back. She called back and said can you be in Nashville in 30 minutes I have a cardiologist that is willing to see you. I told her I live almost 2 hours away. Then she said let me call them back and see if they will wait for you. Well they did and my husband and I drove to Nashville in a mad rush to get their before they left. Finally after all of that they did a ultrasound on my heart and told me I had some wall thickening due to high blood pressure thru out the years but would clear me for the surgery on Monday. Talk about a feeling of relief. Then about 8:00 pm on Friday night I get a call for the surgeon himself explaining that he was so sorry for the scare and the hassle of having to go through this tramatic eventful day. But that he had to have me do it because he sure did not want to have a patient die of a heart attack in the operating room. I told him that I totally understood. Then he said I will see you on Monday. Wheeeeeeew what a day that was. Just thought I would share my experience with you. Hoping everything goes well for you.

One thing this journey will help you develop is patience!

It starts with all the hoops you have to jump through and the pokes, prods, people and procedures we endure just to get to the hospital. Then there are different dietary phases, each of which drags forever going forward, but looking back, was past in a flash.

Then you start losing weight and life is exciting and new right up until you hit that first stall, which may not last long, but will take forever if you have a scale fetish!!!

And dumping imposes its own unique demands for patience.

Oh, yeah, by the time you hang that Century Club badge on your stats, you'll be an expert on patience!!!
