Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I admit food b4 the surgery was my weakness and I was also addicted too. But, after running into a long time friend of mine and her saying OMG! you look stunning!!!" I said my thank you(s) and then she ask me..."what other addiction took the place of the addiction of food after the surgery?...gambling?...spending?....etc..." I told her "none" Has anyone done this....pick up another addiction other then food after the surgery? arghhh! Why do ppl think once fat you are the weakest link?

| Super Moderator | Hmmm. This is kinda treading delicate water, I'll say. There's been some media coverage on this subject, and depending on the source (medical), the data is anywhere from 5-30%. To be regarded in that eye is frustrating, I agree. But, there is evidence that addiction transferance does happen and research is also coming up with evidence that there is a physiological basis to addicction trasnferance as in food-alcohol-drugs. So, denying that the problem is there, is the same as sticking your head in the sand. You just have to be aware that it can happen, so if you think you might have an issue about something, the better it is to consult a professional and get help if there is a need. Of course, there are many who don't go that way, either, but you can get mood swings from time to time that can make things difficult once in a while. Whatever your friend said, she may have asked out of pure concern, or she may have been just curious. I suppose she asked the Q because she's read up on WLS and some post op problems that can happen. Of course, it's none of her business, actually, but with the public becoming aware that such problems exist, I suppose nosey people will be nosey. Well, there always were nosey people all over the place, anyway. ((((((((HUGS)))))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | ...that is about YOU - or FAT PEOPLE, Belle. If I was an alcoholic....and was not drinking...there is an "aptitude" for ppl that have addictive behavior to replace one addiction with another. I definitely have replaced mine....I'm addicted to this silly computer....I'm on it more than I ever was!!! My hubby has said something to me about it - so I know I'm bad!!! LOL.... Just look around....what are you doing that may replace your eating?? What do you do when you are sad now??? Me??? I get on the computer....LOL!!!

| Yesterday was my 5 months anniv. since my surgery and and I am finding the sense to want food is still there at times but then often if i taste something I realize it wasn't worth it and often does not taste so good. But I have to say that i am still obsessed with food wheither I eat it or not. Is that weird??? I guess after going through what I went through will keep me on the right track, but i wonder if those feelings of wanting food as my freind will ever, ever go away. I am flattered too by all of the compliments and often watch people as they look me over, especially in the tummy area where I held most of my weight. I get very self concious...and want to hide...again!!!! Is it normal for our weight loss to slow down after these past months., or just have a slow loss any particular month??? So far I am only down 5 pounds, and hope after this weekend it will be a little bit more at my weigh in next Wed., I feel like I am still in weight watchers and want to cancel for this week for fear of not loosing enough weight. The stress!!!!!! Losing 63 pounds in 5 months to is just amazing to me, but I am worried that I am done losing my weight. Oh well.. If I have a new addiction it would be just losing this weight. Worrying that I will get to my goal. I am afraid to start shopping though, it would be fun to try things on and find I need a smaller size...It might get ugly!!!!! LOL ROBBIN

| Super Moderator | Robbin, your weightloss will come in spurts rather than a constant and even loss, so don't worry. You are far from done, you'll still lose even after a year out. Check Shelley out, she was a year out in June, and she is still losing. Granted, she is making an effort to do so, but the effort is being rewarded. You'll lose and get to goal in your own time. Just hang in there, keep up the good work, and you'll do fine. ((((((((HUGS)))))))

5' 6" Height: | It sure would be easy for me to become cross-addicted. I've really tried to keep busy figuring out what my danger zones are before I get into trouble and what to do to avoid them. I have been so busy this week that eating is almost a pain. Not the eating itself but the planning and the taking the time to eat correctly. So far I have never been sorry to do the right thing though. It's taking the time to do it. |
