Default THIS SHOULD HELP EVERYONE....

when faced with foods we really shouldn't eat... the desserts, sweets, ice cream calling our name...try to focus on the three bite rule to get through the
situation....

The First Bite is to get a good taste.

The Second Bite is to verify it was as good as we thought it would be.

The Third Bite is the LAST BITE, so savour it.

HOPE this gets all my friends thru
hard tempting times!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That is really good advice. It sounds similar to some advice I read from the South Beach Diet book. It is amazing how well it works. We didn't have a lot of money growing up so when I would ask for something sometimes my dad would say, "just close your eyes, imagine how good that tastes, and enjoy the memory." I used to hate it when he said that, but it really does help a lot of the times now. Of course now and then, an imagine it just doesn't cut it, but at least it cuts down on the times it does work.

Good advice all around.
Isn't there a chew slowly and thoroughly added to it?
Making a habit of eating slowly helps a lot. Here abouts, some people say,
"Chew at least 30 times before you gulp the food down."

I am really bad at eating fast. I think that part of that is due to when I was in grade school I loved to talk a lot with my friends at lunch. Well the teacher on lunch duty was mad because I wasn't finishing all of my food in time, and she started telling me that I wasn't allowed to talk to anybody until I was done with everything on my plate. Needless to say, I developed very quick eating habits. My husband always teases me about how fast I eat until he went through military training and then he was faster than me. I have never seen anyone eat a T-bone steak that fast in my life.

To everyone blazing the same trail, maybe you now should make a go at becoming a slow eater?

In normal circumstances, eating fast cheats your brain from getting the "I have had enough, I must stop here" sensation at the timing it should come to keep your weight under control. While some stuff in your blood stream takes time in reaching the level that signals the brain, you will often find yourself stuffing your stomach beyond your true nutritional necessity, leading to weight issues.

Post op, while you are instructed to fill your pouch quickly to get the "full" sensation and not over eat by having the food pass through your pouch quickly, I believe you have been/will be instructed to chew carefully and thoroughly as well.Since, as well as having only a small pouch for a stomach, and having about 1/3 of the loop that absorbs all the nutrients N/A, you have to be sure that every morsel you eat will nourish you. The stomach is the main place where the food mixed and crushed with the digestive juices. Now that you have only a small pouch, you have to use your mouth to cover some of that job, so even with the section of your intestines where some important nutrients are absorbed is bypassed, the remaining protion of your intestines can easily absorb what comes a long.

It might be a good idea to try to eat with the same pace your kids do, talk a lot to take time, maybe tell them a story, instead of finishing ahead and becoming impatient with them.
Now that you are NOT in school, eating slowly and talking a lot with your child and DH is a good thing, NOT a bad thing.

With rice, chewing throughly will probably take care of the sticky issue for some people. I know Craig can eat rice, and have no trouble with it. As I said, chew at leat 30 times before you swallow, and when we say that here, we often are talking about rice. (Oops, the subject of rice came up elsewhere, but anyhow.)

This surgery is about changing how you eat in more ways than one.
Each little step helps.
