| Binge eating
I've got some of Kenya's head noise going on here. I binged the other day. I know why - Mother's day, my Birthday, feeling unappreciated, etc. So I ate a lot of bad things. That's not what this thread is about.
I got on the scale after a day of eating everything that wasn't nailed down and weighed the same as always. So I got to wondering why we don't gain weight immediately and I came up with a theory. We've all heard about putting our system in starvation mode if we cut back too far on the calories. The body can slow the metabolism so that it doesn't use up all the stores, for a while at least, then it gives in and starts buring the fat.
So is there a reverse to this? Do we go into "binge" mode when we grossly overeat? Does our system switch to a mode to deal with all the excess calories and dumps them out into the waste track or something?
Every time I've "blown" a diet I noticed that at first I seemed to be able to eat a lot without gaining, but then it would catch up with me and I would start gaining again. So I wonder if this surgery does something like that to us for awhile but then around the 5 year mark we kinda go back to normal and start gaining again.
Where's Kenya? Would you please come get your head noise? This sounds like something you would think up.

LOL...Where is Kenya? I miss her.
Anyways..I don't know about any of that theory stuff. All I do know is that I don't want to chance it when our bodies decide to hold the food and the scale starts moving in the wrong direction.
It is weird though and I do know what you mean.
I hope you are feeling better now and have laid down the fork, spoon or shovel..lol
With such a sweet face I don't see how someone wouldn't appreciate you.
But.. you know some people are just that way. Gotta love em' anyway.

It didn't work like that for me. I did eat a little more than I should have Mothers day and it showed on the scales the next day. That will keep me in line i hope... lol

I've often wondered about that, too, but no answers coming from the peanut gallery today!

I have done this before to and the scales wont move. However if its been a hell week and I have done it 2-3 times i can see a pound sneak up and get me. This is very rare I do this. And what we call binge eatingis nothing like what we used to eat at all.

| And on this end if I even eat 200 cal over what I should for the day for say two or three days I gain two or three pounds.. Its amazing how they say you need to eat 3000 cal to gain a pound and I only eat that in about three days.. So I guess it all depends on the persons body. Me I have not been exercising lately but I just got released to go back in the pool from the hip dr this week so I am going to try to do that next week.. I do know that I lose much better when I do at least three workouts a week

Ooh I love head noise. I have had this happen also and wondered the same thing. On the Biggest Loser they take Sunday's off from working out and eat what they want. I know a couple of people also swear by upping their calories once or twice a month for one whole day just to kind of shock their bodies into thinking 'here comes the food' and the scales move down.
I'm sure you are back on track and no damage was done. Wahoo

| I've let a tad of bread back into my life and it scares me ~~~ today I had literally 1 3/4" cube of cake, no icing, and thought "step away from the cake" I don't think I could have had much without getting sick, but when you haven't gotten sick in months you wonder if it still works....... Plus, if you're wondering why I would even go there, I want to be normal and normal people eat a variety of foods in healthy moderation. I'm trying to learn this. and I hang out here coz it helps me not stick my head in the sand and go nuts with the 'eat everything' mentality. Yes, I must learn balance~~~~
