Height: | Okay, so I wasn't an American Idol fan after season one. I kinda lost interest. Then for some reason I have caught interest in it again this year. Okay, so I admit that the whole hearing that Simon had ridiculed an overweight contestant did spark some interest, but I think that she handled the situation very well and was very dignified. I also think that she happens to be one of the more talented female vocalists on the show this season. I have always been on the Mandisa bandwagon, but tonight was awesome. She sang "I'm Every Woman" and she really shined tonight. She exuded confidence and really was every woman tonight on that stage. It was as though she was singing that song for each and every one of us women that have had that moment where we have decided that we will NOT take the media's stereotypes and conform our self worth to them. Even after surgery and much hard work and discipline, I will probably never look "acceptable" by mainstream's unacheivable standards, but I can take pride in the fact that I am every woman too. I may not be a model, but I will be strong. I will be feminine. I will be healthy. I will be a worthy role model for my daughter to look up to. I will start trying to concentrate on the good in life. Thank you Mandisa for sharing your light and for being every woman and being proud of it. Janae |

| Whipper Snapper | I think she was very gracious when she told him how upset he had made her with his comments. She humiliated him good and proper. I dont know if you saw it but she said that if jesus could be forgiven his sins to save the world, she could surely forgive him even if he didnt apologise. he looked about 2inches tall! I dont see why people think its open season to say spiteful things if you are overweight - Its absolutely not acceptable to make racist remarks - so why fattist ???? |

Height: | Thank you Ruby Red, I have a hard time with people that say I don't know what it is to be discriminated against cuz I am white. I am a fat woman that has been discriminated against by society quite openly due to my weight. A lot of times it seems like being an ex-convict is more desirable to society than being overweight. People stereotype fat people all the time. I am sick of feeling like I can't indulge in a treat now and then in public without some skinny person glaring at me and acting like I am disgusting. Even if they are eating the same exact thing. That really irks me. I do feel an inkling of pity for Simon though. To his credit, he didn't think that anybody would ever hear the comments, and heaven knows I am not perfect in that department either. I think we all have a bit of Simon lurking around here somewhere. I guess that this whole situation may hopefully encourage us all to be more kind about others even when we don't think anyone will find out about it. Keep posting sweetie, there is a contest to be won. Janae |
