| Just wondering
I was wondering if after I am cleared for exercise if I could take kickboxing classes or martial arts classes. Not right away but maybe sometime in the future. I was a high brown belt in Tae Kwon Do and would like to start up again.

Once I was cleared he said go for it. I was still very with anything to do with the tummy for a while. My daughter used to do Ta Kwon Do and we were just talking about joining together. I don't know if this ole girl has it in her though.

You had the surgery August of this year 2009 right?
Talk it over with your doc for sure..that's pretty soon to start something as strenous as TKD or kickboxing both of which use the core for hitting and kicking. I know our Grand Master for TKD will NOT allow anyone to take class until at least 3 mos after any surgery, even his black belts. He doesn't want to see anyone get hurt and get setbacks.
The beginning with TKD is a low of forms and floor work, but it's the conditioning that precedes that which would worry me for you.
Take it as a progressive thing if indeed with walking, getting your body fully healed and ease into it all! Because it's totally worth getting into doing again!
It would be wonderful if you took it slow and moved up through the TKD beyond the belt level you were. I'd also go and talk to the TKD, master and see their take on it too.
Our conditioning pre TKD workouts:
5 min running, 50 jumping jacks, situps for a certain amount of time, push ups usually 25 +, wall sits = 2 min, stretching, jumping rope..all of those things are going to effect the abdominals much more than you think!

Breechick,
I remember all of those warm ups. I know it works the core alot that is why I will probably take it up again after 6 months or more but when I am cleared for exercise again what do you suggest I start with as far as exercise. Before surgery I was at the gym everyday for about 1-2 hours taking various classes. I am really into strength training but really need to work on my cardio. I have no endurance whatsoever!
