Default Peek a Boo

Well, I went to my surgeon yesterday and Doc S was right. He and I both think this is a hernia. So basically my bowels are playing "peek a boo" through a hole in my abdominal wall. They could get trapped and strangulate and die and then I'd die too. Isn't this wonderful. *note the sarcasm*

I just started back to school after summer break and I'm only allowed to miss 14 hours of clinicals. That's 2 days. So, um, I am starting to freak a little and I'm hoping this won't mess up my schooling. I graduate in May if I can get through these last 2 semesters. It's crunch time and the material is harder than ever! Lots of students fail out in this semester!

So, that's what's going on with me. If you have had a hernia and have some advice for me then shoot. I need to hold off surgery as long as possible. Oh, and my Dr. says surgery is the only way to know for sure and of course the only way to repair this.

Doc S, please offer any advice you think may be helpful. Would it help with my pain if I went to a liquid diet?

Oh and sympathy hugs are good too. Thanks. (:

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

There is no real prevention--except surgery. Liquid diet won't help you because it's a matter of whether your gut has worked into the pocket or not, and it's not affected by what you eat.
I am sorry that you are in a time crunch. Have you asked your surgeon how long the surgery can take you out? Quite a number of people have had this surgery, so let's see what they have to say about the actual down time. Unless your guts get strangulated and you need emergency surgery (which can take you out for a while), with a planned repair, you down time can be planned as well.

Im agreeing with Doc on this one again. Imagine that!

Im a nurse honey and I know what it takes to get though the last parts of this. However when it comes to your health and what might be going on with it...... you know its dangerous. Even more so if emergency surgery has to be done. I wouldnt suggest a liquid diet either. Not what so ever acutally. Do as DOc suggested.

I am so sorry you are going through this at this time. This is supposed to be a sympathy hug. You will make it, just hang in there. Prayers are on there way for you.

Hurry and get the surgery on Friday morning. Then you can recover over the Labor Day weekend and be back to school on time having only missed one day. If you can go back to school three days after WLS (still don't know how you survived that one!!), you can do this!!

As a veteran of several hernias, I can tell you, don't push this to insane limits. There is no prize for second place in a contest with your bowels!! You can plan a controlled amount of time off now, or you can face an uncontrolled amount later when it slaps you down. But May is entirely too far away to be realistic!!

Big hugs here too.

I don't know...you may have to work this into your Christmas break. I don't know a surgeon in this town that can do a non-emergent surgery before Friday.

My dog has a hernia. We only notice it when he gets shaved early summer. Nothing comes out. We call it his belly button, which I suppose it once was. The groomer mentioned it as a hernia.
