| Upper Endoscopy after Upper Endoscopy
I am really really upset with whats going on. For the life of me I can not figure out why I decided to go through this process of weight loss surgery. Im really upset with my decision tonight. These feelings are now present because now Im told I have to go in next week for my 4th Upper Endoscopy because my opening to my small intestine is way too small and continues to need to be streached. Why me? I made sure I asked them as soon as I get into recover I want to see my mom, they ignored my request and then were ignoring me. The recovery room was awful, I was sitting and decided since I was alert and awake I would start the discharge process my self, as I was looking though my papers and reading what was written I saw please have patient call for another appt. WHAT!!! thats when I had a real emotional breakdown and decided this is UNACCEPTABLE. I have to pay another copayment to the insurance. Well I have decided that I will make my payment arrangements on the first 2 and the surgery, they will get there 100.00 a month to cover the 1250. balance that I have, But this copay and the next copay they will get 5.00 a week. I am not made out of money and think its totally wrong for them to keep billing my insurance company for the same procedure. So I found my discharge papers told the nurse Get my mom NOW and signed and someone came in and took out my IV. I asked to speak to the doctor after the procedure he said no problem, so where the hell was he. No were to be found! We waited in a confrence room for him for almost 10 minutes and then found our way out. Sorry but I have better things to do then sit around and wait for some Inconfident doctor to show the hell up. The nurses are lucky that they came in when they did, because if they didnt then I would have removed my own IV and walked out. I dont care any more.

| OH Jess...... I'm sooo sorry to read all of this! This is awful!!! I know you are having a very hard time...but, just remember - this is just a stepping stone...and every surgery isn't the same and doesn't go the same for every person. I'm sure they are just trying to be cautious....not thinking of the $$ it is costing you! WOW..... I know this is difficult...keep your chin up.... _______________________________________ On a side note....I found out our NEW INSURANCE (that we have since Russ b/came a student) DOES NOT cover anything in regards to my surgery - ZIP!!! They classify it as elective. So....even to see the surgeon for an update....it is gonna cost me $350!!! Can you believe that??? For a 15min visit...most likely...and that doesn't cover the lab work! WOW huh??? _______________________________________________ I'm sooo sorry for all you are dealing with....Love and prayers for you my friend! |

Jessica, I am sorry to hear that you need several endoscopies to stretch your stricture and that you are upset about it.
Since you are very upset about the whole incident, I am thinking that maybe your dr did not inform you as well as he should have, what needs to be done, has he?
Has he informed you that with strictures, you may need to have it stretched several times before the opening becomes large enough and stable enough? If the stoma can be stretched with just one procedure, you are very very lucky. Even if the stricture seems to be stretched enough with one or two procedures, they often become re-stricted. That is why you need several scopes, and one last scope to make sure that the stoma is behaving well and you don't need to be checked out any more.
You know that this is no simple answer to a complicated problem, and nothing will come to be in one fell swoop.
You may be very frustrated right now, but when you look back, say, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year later, I am sure you will see every single heartache that you had to go through as being worth where you have arrived at.
You may think that everyone else is having smooth sailing, but if you check every single thread and post in this board, you will realize that every one has had one trouble or another at some stage, that has upset them, sent them back to their drs numerous times. Never-the-less, every person, after coming through their ordeal says that the surgery is still worth everything.
Have a good cry, and a good rest, take a long and envigorating walk, and you will feel better and be able to deal with the stress better.
It is just a bump on your journey, and in the end you will come out fine, with all the effort you have put into this.
((((((((HUGS)))))))))

Jessica, I hope your feeling better by the time you read this. I know when I went in the first time for my scope for my stricture they were sure to tell me that it could take more than one try. They said normally its 2 or 3 trys and they even had one guy they had to do it to 8 times!! After letting my stricture go for a month and not being able to eat with out throwing up, I would much rather have the scope again, but i've been lucky so far and haven't had many problems. I'm not sure If what I'm eating is enough or if i'm eating normal but i'm not hungry! I go for a new check up on Friday and looking forward to it cause I have some questions for my doc. Like does any one else have hot flashes after they eat??? Mine start normally 5-10 mins after im done and last for 20-30 mins

Jessica, I am so sorry that you are having to go through this right now. There are no easy answers to what you are experiencing. I think Doc hit it on the money best. I know that it probably doesn't solve your frustration though and I understand that. I can also understand the stress with the money factor. I have had a couple of dentists that charged me for jobs that they did that later had to be redone because they were not done good enough the first time. I don't think it is the same in your case, but can understand the frustration from feeling like you are being milked dry in your funds. Hang in there sweetie.

| Doing a little better now
Hi all,
Just wanted to let you all know im still upset that I have to go through this a 4th time but have spoken to my work and all if fine, My grandmother suggested that I call my insurance and find out if they are being billed each time the procedure is done, because its a result of my WLS that I had and should be covered under that, and if its not then I should only have to pay once because I didnt ask then NOT to fix the entire thing the first time. So with this said I have not seen a bill as of yet, lets hope it stays that way, and if I do I will fight it or fight most of it. its not fair to me and my family. But enough said I found my favorite thing is sugar free popsicles. They are so good. The sooth my pouchie when its irritatated. I hit 80 lbs down yesterday. This is overall 55 of it is since surgery. You know whats funny is I met a girl that is through the same doctor as me. When she was 8 weeks out I was surprise to see that she lost 53 lbs, thought she was loosing too fast, so tuesday was 8 weeks out, I took pics, still neet to get them posted, But for 55 lbs in 8 weeks. My parents still say your loosing to fast, im on my dads tail he has lost 82 lbs (natrually) since June and me 80 lbs since June 26!!! Holy crap what a differnce people are going to say at my christmas party!!!! We will no longer be considered the fat ones of the family!!!!

Jessica,
Sorry to hear about all your dilemias! I keep thinking all these bumps are just the Lord's way of letting us know that we work hard for this weight loss and realize that now matter what we definitely didn't not take "the easy way out". you will get through this and just like everyone said you will most likely feel nothing but good feelings about having your surgery. You are still early out and it wasn't til recently that I have said that it is definitely worth it and I have not had a fraction of hard times that you have had. So some of that feeling is totally just normal blues and a lot is just the trauma of what you are going through. Remember we are here for you! Have fun and rock your party, little woman!!!!
