| Whipper Snapper | Alright, I realize that I cant be the only one that has cheated during their 2 week pre-op liquid diet . I have been doing pretty well but yesterday I had a bit of a slip during a weak moment . I had some ham and eggs, not alot but I did have them . Peace |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well...you are right about that! I did cheat a little, but in a strange way! I had tomato basil soup....and found out that this wasn't a good idea from the nurses at my doctors office! She also said that the MOST important time to be on the liquids was 4 days before!!! Evidently the Liquid diet isn't to "torture" us (ha!)....it's to shrink your liver so when your doc goes in laparoscopically it will not be soooo big that it is in the way. It has to be "propped up" with a trocar...and if it's too big it becomes difficult to manage laparoscopically! So...even though you did a little "cheating"...now you are in the critical time of the liquid diet...so stick strict to it now!! OK?? The day of my surgery I heard my doctor talking to some nurses in the pre-op rooms about the person before me....they could tell that she had not followed the protocol of the liquid diet...her liver was large...and her surgery had been difficult. So...for your own good...stick to it! YOU CAN DO IT!!! I know you've heard this...but, just b/c you are having it done Laparoscopically in the start...there is no guarantee that you will come out that way....your surgery could have to be open if your doctor has any problems....you want to make sure that has NOTHING to do with something you could've prevented! I don't mean to scare you...just want to encourage you to stick to your docs protocol!! I know it's hard - but YOU CAN DO IT!!!! When is your surgery?? Thursday or Friday?? You will be in our thoughts and prayers....if you'd like my cell#...I'd PM it to you ....in case you want to talk...or anything during your recovery. I know it's hard to get to the computer the few days after surgery!!! Hang in there!!! So glad you are on our board!!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Pre-op diet? I haven't even heard of this? I will be having my surgery next month, and all the ladies that I know that had the same surgeon, have not mentioned a liquid diet before surgery. Oh well, maybe it's because he is an Army doctor?

| Super Moderator | Weldome to the board, RePete07, thank your for joining us. Won't you take a peek in Your Profiles, start a thread there of your own, and tell us a little about yourself? As for pre-op diets, these and other requirements differ with surgeons. Some require them, others don't. Since you haven't heard from your fellow patients, it is likely that your surgeon doesn't require it, but then again, you may be told to do something pre-op when your date is closer. (((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Just a suggestions for this point on. If you get to feeling really hungry, drink something warm. The warmer it is, it seems to do something to your tummy that will make it feel full. I know I struggled with this during my preop diet. It helped me a ton. Good luck with your surgery.

5/17/06 Start Date:
5' 6" Height: | I didn't have a pre-op diet. As a matter of fact, the only thing I was told to do is clear liquid 2 days before op. I have to say though, I was very sore after surgery and think that is a good idea to do something to shrink prior to WLS. I just didn't know. All docs. are different I guess. |
