| Ok, I went to a 2 week check up today and with my little journal talked with my surgeon about my diet. I lost 4 more pounds. I finally asked him about the pains I was having in my side and he is sending me in for an ultra sound of my gall bladder. He was in no hurry, but boy I hope they don't find anything. He then gave me the results of my blood test etc... My colesteral was at 199...not too bad, but my B12 level was on 145!!!!!! OOOUUUCH. I was so shocked., I never expected that number. I am calling my PC and getting an appointment with them not just for that but for some other things anyway, ...he sudgested some shots till I get it leveled off. I need to have another test in one month to recheck my levels... I know others here have had issues with this. I know too it is fixable and it will be a challenge forever. I was just amazed at how low it really is. Someone told me to eat Liver and onions....hmmmmm....still thinking on that one. Very high in Vitamin B.....?????? Just needed to vent and celebrate at the same time...Oh well. ROBBIN

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have been on the NASCOBAL instead of tryng to get in to the doctor for b12 shots. MY levels arent lo yet.... but they tried me on it for numbness matters that i have. ITs very common for wls patients to run deficient in the b12 many get shots. BUT i love the nascobal i sniff it once a week! my surgeon prescribed it for me

Height: | I would much rather have the shots than liver and onions in my opinion. I get the shots and it has helped me immensly. Good luck sweetie. I am glad that they caught it before it got much lower. The longer you wait on that vitamin level the more likely you are to have irreparable nerve damage so keep on top of it. Janae |

| Kat Doc might be able to fine tune the levels but if I remember coerrectly the low end of the table on the blood test sheet was 186, and the high end was to be in the high 800's. Mine was 145...very scary. I will ask about the percription you have Lisa when I go see my gp., see what they might sugest. Thanks. robbin

| Super Moderator | Sorry for being late on this. Below level is, of course, way too low. Since GBS patients have a hard time retaining VB12, and it will take some time to build up the lack, keeping it in the high end, or even just a bit above the normal level is the best. To bring it up to speed, shots are best, as it goes directly into your blood stream, then nasal sprays. Pills will take a longer time to recover. You will need shots at a shorter time span than for keeping the level stable, as you need to increase the level. (((((HUGS)))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Okay mine was borderline before surgery and they never told me until my last appt and all my np told me was to start the sublingual stuff and wait until my 6 month check up. I am sure it is low. I am always light headed, very tired and my lips go numb a lot. Should I be more persistant? I don't like her too much and will be seeing my surgeon next time but I could always go to my general practicioner or call the surgeon myself. What is all of your opinions? I am glad you started this thread. Thanks! |

| Super Moderator | Best to confirm with the drs. The symptoms you have could be from low VB12. So I say, yes, call your surgeon or your PCP. A nutritionist is a nutritionist, and not a trained medical dr. so it is likely she doesn't understand the true implications of the lack, and what should be done.
