Default A tasty dish

Just tried some ricotta, sauce and cheese mmmmgood .
My surgery date was 12/8 and I have a concern. I seem to be able to take in 4-6 ozs with no problem. At this point it is mostly a liquid or pudding type of consistency food that I am eating, but should I be worried about the amount? I kept reading before surgery that my pouch will only be 1/4 to 1 oz.....if so, how can I put all those ozs in without feeling ill? I am going to be starting on more solid foods in the next couple of days. Any input?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Ahhh
you have discovered my favorite pureed food dish!
WAS i in heaven when i was able to eat that noodless
lasagna dish!!! DONT forget to use the fatfree ricotta
and cheese.

As far as how much you eat always depends on the type of food.
I always felt i was eating more. I would just take a toddler baby
food bowl and eat that. THAT always did me well. I know for me
if i over ate i would be ill. BUT becareful that your not over doing it
and makeing yourself uncomfortable. YOUR staple line is healing and
you dont want to rupture that from over eating....! CAREFUL!!!
and listen to your body and learn when your full.

hugs
PS: as for solids...best advise is CHEW everything till its a pureed before swallowing it down .

The stoma--the opening in your pouch to the small intestines-- is always open, contrary to the pylorus--the natural opening of the normal stomach to the dueodenum (first portion of small intestines) which has a ring of muscles around it, and will close while the food in the stomach is being churned.
What this means is, with gastric bypass, if you are not careful of how you eat, everything will slip through the opening and you will not be able to learn the full feeling. Liquids will just pass through, and so will slippery soft foods like puddings. That is why you seem to be able to get in 6-8oz. Solids are what will settle for a while in the pouch and then pass through. However, since you have "lost" the portion of the stomach that does the churning and mixing and softening up, you need to chew very well, and make the food as mushy as you can before it goes to the pouch, or you will get an icky feeling, stuck feeling, foamies or

You need to measure what you eat beforehand, and eat only that amount, or you will start grazing, which will lead to weight gain rather than loss. Do not eat 6-8oz because you can, limit your intake to 3-4oz as that is the final size most pouches settle at.
If you seem unable to get the full feeling after you've been put back to normal food, discuss it with your surgeon, as sometimes, the stoma gets stretched which will cause everything to pass through easily.
