Question Question about PBC

Hi all,

My question is about PBC, (aka: Primary Biliary Cirrhosis). I'm newly diagnosed and am wondering about the potential relationship between PBC and WLS.

Any info?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

As far as I know, I don't think PBC has been brought up as a complication of WLS.
PBC is basically thought to be an autoimmune disease and one of the diagnostic criteria is the existence of anti-mitochondria antibody or anti PDH antibody. (Sorry for the medical jargon.) Anyway, there is a pretty precise diagnostic criteria for this condition.

However, if you seem to have some liver issues, it may be that it is a result of fatty liver, which you most likely would have had when you were overweight/obese, especially since this isn't resolved as quickly with your weightloss post op, it takes longer for this condition to improve, and fatty liver does develop into cirrhosis if not taken care of.
Or, the fact that you have fatty liver could compound PBC is another possibility.
