Oh, I don't have a surgery date yet. MY doctor mentioned it a couple of years ago, but I did not feel like fighting GHP insurance. Since then , GHP is now covering it. I am actually switching to United Health Care. I know they all have their requirements, and I am sure United HC is going to put up a fight since we will be new to them. I guess the first step is to talk to my PCP? I don't know where to start.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Start talking with your PCP, but also start looking for a surgeon as well.

Default My Muffin...

JUST wanted to say the best way to see if you meet all the requirements
is start your journey and start meeting with local surgeons.

AS far as meeting with your PCP first depends once again on the type
of insurance you have. IF you need referals for specialists then you
need to begin there for a referal. IF not then you can start phoneing
surgeons in your area to begin. I met with two surgeons. THE one
i went with first has you attend his information seminar...and once
you complete that he then sets up your first appointment with him.
THEY are best to know for sure if your situation meets the requirements
of insurance companies. SOMETIMES when your not a 100 lbs over weight
other weight related problems help get approvals. EVERY surgeon is different.

GOOD LUCK and i look forward to getting to know you as your journey
begins!

Red face Awwww muffins come here ....

Awww Muffins come let me hug you a tight warm ((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))

please don't be depressed and trust me this surgery is the key to happy healthy life coming after!!! I have been obese my entire life!! I was a big kid since I was 5 years old! I guess it's inherited and also our parents didn't know how to show their love except by feeding us! my entire childhood, teenagehood, adulthood were miserable and I was always trapped in the house afraid if somebody sees me will make a hurtful comment and the more I stayed at home the more I ate and the more I gained weight! I had all the difficulties you're having now! I was hyper tensive on my first pregnancy and I almost died on my 2nd labor!! and after that moment I decided that I have to do something to this problem or it's better to end this life! seriously I had suicidal thoughts!

I pray for you, I hope that you'll get the acceptance from your insurance company. Trust me the WLS will buy you a new healthy life!
Can't wait to hear the good news from you

Love,
Hanadi

I have been on BP medicine for 10 years now. Have suffered from depression for many years. I eat because I am depressed and I am depressed because I am fat and miserable. I just found out that I am now pre-diabetic. I do have asthma also and get out of breath very easily, playing with the grandkids wears me out. If I get down on the floor and can barely get up. I can hardly reach to wipe myself when I pee. I am just miserable, tired all the time. I had my gall blader removed when I was 30 years old, and 3 years ago, I had part of my colon removed because of colon cancer. I know my gall stones and my colon cancer is from my bad eating habits. I just can't seem to get control. This is not living. I want to know what it is like to live. I keep this up, I'll be dead by 60. Sorry about giving you my whole sob story.

Red face

Hi Muffins,
Welcome to this board. There is lots of good info. here. I'm still learning myself. I had my surgery on the 2nd of Nov. 06, so I'm pretty new here too. As far as my wls journey, I had no other health problems except being the 100 lbs. over weight. Although the pulmonogist found out that I have sleep apnea....ug! I tell you what the dreaded CPap machine is a hassle . As far as your journey, I would talk to your PCP first, see what the insurance company will pay for and what referrals you need. Then start making your appts.

I had several clearances to complete before I could get my surgery.
I had to have a EKG, Echo, Stress test, EDG, psyc eval., nutrition classes, pulmonologist(sleep study) and finally a Bariatric internist.

To this date, I have lost 34 lbs. in almost 8 weeks. I am pleased!!!! I am on my way to a healthier, longer life, hey.... The road is NOT easy, I say take on day at time which will make things a whole lot easier.

Keep us up date on your journey!

Debbie

Hey Muffins,
I had my surgery on Dec. 5th. Went home on the 11th. By the time I went home I was off my diabetes meds. I took my blood sugar once since I came home and it was 85 with no meds. Total I've lost 31 lbs. Still on blood pressure meds and cholesterol, but I'm expecting to get rid of the blood pressure meds when I lose more. Before surgery, I couldn't walk any distance or excercise. My feet and ankles would swell. I was miserable. When I'm able to get out and walk, I expect it to be a lot easier. Good luck to you.
