| just waiting
Logging in for the first time in months and the site kindly reminded me how long its been and that I should post!
I guess I havn't been around because asking questions and reading everyone else's answers was fun, interesting, and got me really excited about the surgery. Well, that's all good but it doesn't do me much good when I just sit here and wait.
My insurance company was a lesser known company, the financial people at my surgeon's office had never worked with them, so they didn't know what to expect. I found out shortly after we made the 1st claim that my company was changing insurance for 2010. I figured that we should just put it off until the new year, thinking that if it was approved, there wouldn't be time to have the surgery before the end of the year, but my HR department told me that anything approved in '09 would be covered in '10 just be filling out a continuity of care form. So, we forged ahead. I got my chest x-ray, ultrasound, upper endoscopy, psych eval and blood work. But we got nothing. They were dragging their feet and taking as much time as possible. So here I am, New Year's Day, brand new insurance policy and we start over from scratch. I know I don't have to get new tests or anything, but I guess I am thinking that since I did not get an answer in more than 3 months of trying, that I now have at least 3 more months until I get an answer. Tired of waiting. Tired of carrying around the weight.
The little bit of hope I am thinking about is that my new insurance is Blue Shield, and the people in my surgeon's office tell me that they work with Blue Shield often and know what they want. So, maybe that will speed it up a little
Happy New Year, all! 2009 was a rough one, and its time for the universe to give us all a break with this next trip 'round the sun.

You're lucky you don't have to have new tests done. My surgeon required all tests except the psych to be current within 30 days of surgery. The psych had a 12 month window. Hang in there...your time will be here soon.

We have the Blues for insurance, but their handling of the claims for both of our surgeries didn't leave us singing the blues! They were excellent to work with and paid everyone very promptly.

Honey actually them changing was to your benefit. Blue Sheild will pay for it as long as they dont have a disclamier in the policy that states they will not pay for it. Some do have that. Since I started looking into the surgery and since I have had the surgery there are not many out there that dont. Now the orginal testing you had shouldnt have to be done again. It counts. They may ask for other testing meaning additonal more than what you have had and then again you may have had all they required. It just depends on what it states they require. They all differ.
Im glad you have not given up. I really am. It shows how much you are detirmended to have this done and never give up the fight. I think you will be just fine and like I said I think you changing insurance will be a good thing for you. Evidently the old insurance didnt even attempt this.
Keep posting we love to get updates!

Hi, I have Blue Shield and it took 2 days for me to be approved altogether less than a month from when I first started. Good luck.

You might want to check with the surgeon's office just to make sure they resubmit the paperwork to BC/BS. Don't count on the old insurance company to transfer it! Good luck, I hope you hear something postive soon.
