Default I'm JUST "Obese"....

I've been fat for soooo long....
So early on in my journey as I've done my personal appraisals I'd be very conscious of what the scale said. So much so that I put a ton on value on those numbers as well as the numbers that hung in the waistbands and necklines of my wardrobe.
Soooo...when "they" whoever "they are" came up with a new way to audit myself....I unconsciously conceded and took upon yet ANOTHER label that says: "Morbidly Obese"

Which brings me to -
Most of you know of my "scale addiction"....and the fact that I weight every other day....if not every day. Well...I haven't really checked the BMI scale lately - until ticker factory started offering it as an option.
I just saw today....I'm no longer "morbidly obese" - I'm JUST "obese."

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Tisk tisk... how dare you weigh yourself every other day...
Just kidding, I weigh myself 4 or 5 times a day, so I COMPLETELY understand! I hate to even look at the BMI scale... the numbers is what I want! BMI still says I'm Fat and that's not cool to be reminded. I get very discouraged that way.

Talking Girl!!!

That's the point....
it doesn't matter what the scale - BMI or Pound - "SAY!"
it doesn't matter what the tags that hang in your clothes "say."

What do YOU SAY???

If you wanna know what I say....I say, "YOU ARE GORGEOUS!!!"

Default Well Deb!

If you wanna know my opinion on this little matter. I say whatever you feel good in, GO WITH IT. I know when a person is heavy, they feel like **** in anything that they put on. Their is a beautiful, sexy person in everyone who gives themselves the chance to be. You, Deb, don't have to worry anymore. Every picture I have seen of you is a real treat for me. HE HE You are looking vuluptuous these days. you areally look great these days. If you don't believe me, just ask Janae what I said to her on the phone. I meant what I said. UR AWESOME GIRL.
mike
p.s. BTW....I am obsessed with the scale thing to. I weigh everyday other day, if not everyday also. It's not a good thing to get into , but a person does it.

Hey, congrats, Deb, you are halfway through the BMI scale to overweight, too.

As far as the scales go, as a dr, I look more at the BMI scale rather than the actual lb/kg number, as the BMI reflects the status of the person in relation to their height. A 6'1" 300 lb person and a 5'1" 300 lb person are obviously at different points.

Keep in mind, also, muscles take up less volume than fatty tissue, so at the same weight, the more muscles you have, the slimmer you look. So, exercise is crucial here, too. As soon as your surgeon okays, you should make the effort to add resistance exercise--weight and stuff--as well as aerobic exercise--walking, swimming, dancing etc. Of course, with the less weight that you carry while you are shrinking, the more mobile you become, so there, you will be adding more exercise without even thinking, but getting some thought out stuff also helps. Exercise also have the extra boon of lifting your spirits.

So, the scales, whether in lbs, or in BMI are also a tool, and only a tool, to give you perspective of what you are. The total effect of everything put together is what makes you who you are.

There is so much emotional and psychological baggage that goes along with being overweight, especially if you struggled with it for a loooong time!! I wonder when we look in the mirror...will we ever see what other people see?
I believe it takes much longer for the brain to latch onto the fact that we are not "fat" anymore, much longer than it takes to actually lose the weight. At least I believe this is true in many cases.

Let me see...here's the thread on the discussion I had with CraigT, our host, precisely on this matter.

Also, the tricks our brain play on us.
