Default Forgive me for I have sinned

just kidding.....but there is one thing I cant get used to and that is no drinking before, during, or after meals. I cant do that. That is the negative, now the positive. WLS was 12/8/06.....started at 285lbs.....i am now 237lbs. i am very fortunate in that I have had not one complication nor have I gotten sick from any thing I have consumed. Mind you I dont take many chances with what I eat. I do understand why it is recommended no drinking at or around meal times but since i am doing so well I dont think I will change anything for now. And it is not like I have a full glass of something with my meal but I have sipped on occassion

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

YOUR off to a great start!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! YOU are off to a great start.
well a sip on ocasion isnt horrible.
THEY really dont want you to fill up on the drink
and not get a safe amount of protein in.

THATS just one of many reason for the rule.
I do adhere to no drinking with a meal.....
but i have sipped to soon after and then i get
the most violent refund so i dont mess with that
more then sip if i really truly need.

ITS also said that the drink to soon pushes
the food thru your pouch leaving it empty and hunger
to return too soon before another meal.
SO many reasons....
but i do adhere to that and i also havenot
touched one DIET soda since surgery
and that im proud about alot.

Friendly, did your Doc tell you no diet soday or is that a trigger for you? Mine gave me the OK back in September but I have had only one since WLS. Just wondering.

HEY KAT...
that is one of my surgeons rules.
NO soda (carbonated beverages)
ever.....
and i havent devitated this rule of his.
I dont drink coffee i was a diet pepsi addict
at one time.

i cant imaine putting carbonation in my pouch
i would truthfully be miserable in pain and bloat.
I think again this is one of those items that varies
from surgeon to surgeon. WITH all the studies about
the diet sodas triggering us to eat more i am going to
continue this rule for ever.

good luck

Red face Knightron....

CONGRATS!!!
on your wonderful results....how exciting!!

I never liked to drink while eating before.....
...and now, all I want is to drink! (I try very very hard to adhere...but once in a while...take a little tiny sip...but that's it!!)

Unfortunately...I have had a soda.....or two or three or ????
I will say...I like it a bit flatter...and CANT drink outta the can or bottle.
I really hate the HEAVY BURN...so, I really like it flat -er...not completely flat...but "ER".

The other thing....is I usued to drink a 52oz. diet cherry vanilla coka a day....so that I sip on on 20oz. diet coke for days...sometimes a couple weeks - pretty funny. Sometimes between sodas will be weeks too....I've had the one in the door for about 3 weeks.~ (btw...it doesn't feel "anything" in my pouch...but I go REALLY really sllllllloooooooooooooooooowwww!)

I had a diet root beer the other day and all though it took me 3 or 4 hours to finish, I didn't mind the fizz. It's funny how we are all different, huh?

Yes we are all different and choose to experiment with different things. I am a total chicken when it comes to carbonation. I am so afraid it will hurt. I also know soda was a total addiction for me in the past to choose not to go there. I do the coffee route instead. lol...

I feel though anything in moderation, knowing limits is ok to venture into once in a while. We are only human.

I haven't had a soda yet.. BUT love the diet pink lemonade I found. No caffine no sugar no carbonation.
To be honest I stop drinking prior to my meal but do have a few sips with my meal and I try to wait at least 30 mins after eating to drink. I started keeping something on my desk at work to remind myself to drink through out the day but I suck on the weekends cause I don't have it right there with me all the time!!
Good luck!!

it is one of my rules too... no carbonation, although I've had a sip of pop a few times. I've NEVER drank a whole cup, can, or bottle... just a sip to get the taste and I was satisfied.

The other rule you mentioned no eating before or after meals... well, I thought that might be hard for me too, but so far I just stick to it because I'm scared of what might happen.

Well, a sip here and there to allow the food to move a bit smoothly is fine. Better not sip during a meal to quench thirst, though, that may rob you of being able to learn the full feeling.
Also, if you find food does not go down easily, and you need a sip to help along, it may be that you are not chewing well enough. Think carefully why you are doing this, it is best not to make it a habit.

As for the soda thing, it differs with the surgeon, and it differs with the person. Just so that it doesn't go back to an addiction, especially if you had it before.
Medically speaking, it isn't something you can't do without.

Oh, yeah, everything in moderation, so long as you don't forget your protein!!
