Default Do you or did you.....

ever have a person in your life that you dreaded seeing when you were BIGGER? I ask this because I very well may be going back home to Texas in the next 2 weeks to help take care of my sick Grandma. All the while growing up I was always the "fat" one. All my cousins, aunts grandma was always skinny. I grew up being told all the time I was fat. Now the last time I saw my Grandma she said to me "Whew we Becky you sure have gotten fat" this was AFTER I had lost 50lbs. Now I am about 50# heavier then the lasttime I saw her and I just dread the observation she will be making. I had hoped not to return to Texas before I had my surgery and lost some weight but now its almost inevitable....anywho just wondering if there is anyone in your lives that you just DREAD seeing

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default Well, Beckamarie

I know that feeling all to well. Two of my uncles used to do that to me, and my one aunt. They would say things like OH MY GOD, EVERYTIME I SEE YOU, YOU GET BIGGER. My dad, to, would make comments. First, he would laugh, then he would pat my belly and say things like UR GUT IS BIGGER THAN MINE, OR I DON'T HAVE A WEIGHT PROBLEM LIKE THE REST OF YOU. GET OUT AND MOVE AROUND, AND ALOT OF THAT WEIGHT WOULD COME OFF. The second comment that he made wasn't a bad one, but it was the way he said it. Then he wonders to this day, why the surgery never worked for my mother. Some of the people to make the comments had no right to make them, especially my aunt, she was heavy herself. Not that anyone has the right to put someone else down because of their weight. I DON'T THINK THEY REALIZE THAT IT HURTS SOMEONE'S FEELINGS. In my dad's case, he has never been heavy, so he doesn't understand what it's like to be overweight. All of us kids took after my mother. She has never put me down because of my weight, because she knows how it is. HANG IN THERE ONCE AGAIN Beckamarie. CHIN UP! Things will get better.

Hey Becka,
I think that we've all felt like that at least once in our lives.. I have always been self conscious about what people thought about my weight. Some people would even have the nerve to stay stuff to my husband about what a pretty face I had...too bad I was so overweight. And these were people who weren't even related to me or good friends! People are going to think what they want/say what they want...but really all that matters is what you think. You're in the process of taking care of yourself....good for you. If you go to Texas it's because you want to help take care of your Grandma....good for you, too. I hope it works out for you.

...oh yes. With everyone I have avoided that one. I can't tell you how many parties, weddings, gatherings of any type that I didn't show for because I didn't want people to see or say how I was bigger. Oh ya.

Yea, me too. I've missed many family reunions at my Mom's house and she just lives about 50 yds from my front door!
I always hated running into old boyfriends or high school classmates...I think that may have been the worst.

Red face Becka~

I will be praying for you as you return to Texas to care for the woman who caused you so much emotional pain. You are an angel....

One thing I'd encourage you to remember...is that your grandmother's comments are NOT about YOU! They speak loudly about her....about her insecurities...and lack of grace. You should not take what she says - that is about HER...all HER.

Just thinking about this....
It constantly amazes me how some people take to criticizing others to elevate their own self-esteem. Another thing that amazes me is when people don't know how to be gracious - kind - and loving....when there is a concern or something to be said...they lack these qualities to really LOVE... & to Love WELL!

It is my mission for my life...as a wife, friend, mother and daugter to be AUTHENTIC...but, with grace & love. If my daughter grows up to have a problem with her weight...or eating...I pray God will show me how to 'speak the truth to her with LOVE'...and to be graceful in how I deal with others.

Wow, FemmeMode, no one could have said it better, you have a wonderful way with words. Sorry to say, but I'm sure each and everyone of us has been in the position to dread seeing someone because of our weight. I would always do a quick mental tally comparing my current weight (the day I saw someone) to the weight I was on the time before when I saw them. It wasn't ever lower the second meeting, either I am so thankful that now I don't have to go through that mental math anymore, it was never my strong subject in school!

My grandmother would never say anything like that for me it's my mother. It was always, "How's your diet going" everytime I talked to her. She stopped it after she started putting on weight in her later years and I would come back with, "Okay how about yours?" She would always make up something like she lost 10 lbs but gained half of it back. Finally she quit asking at all.

Maybe if she says something to you about being bigger, come back with something like, "Yep, good thing I'm big enough to take care of you huh?"

You'll know what to do, just realize that we all have at least one of them in our lives.

I'll be prayin for you. Its so sad that the people we love have the most power to hurt us.
I was always fortunate enough not to have to hear it from my family, but it doesn't mean I didn't feel it especially when your mom and sister are both tiny, and your brother eats and eats and can't gain an ounce. But never did they say anything mean to me.
