| Just Wondering...
I know all the stats say that we will lose about 70-80% of our excess weight, but when I look at people on here, I am just amazed... I know that following the rules has paid off for most of you, but what else do you do to reach goal in a year. I would like to lose the 120 lbs that I want to lose in my year, so I was just wondering how did you guys get to looking SO wonderful SO quickly!!! And what were your "rules" if that was how you did it?
Thanks for sharing it is helping me get to the beginning line... (only 2 1/2 weeks away!!!!)

THe golden rule is, "Follow YOUR surgeon's instructions and rules."
Everyone has done it, so you can, too. |

I was wondering the same thing. I felt like my surgeon was trying to keep my expectations low... I definitely want to lose more than 70% of my excess and will do everything I possibly can!

I made sure I got my protein from food. Trying to get 60-80 oz of food protein in my pouch meant there was seldom room for anything else, and if there was room, I ate veggies. I believe if you drink your protein you are leaving too much space in your pouch for bad things. Eat meat.

I also make sure that everyday that I get 60-80 grams of protein from food and make sure that I always drink at least 64oz. of water. I did not and still don't count calories, when I get all my protein in there is no room for anything else. I also get what exercise that I can get but it is tough because I am a truck driver and am in the truck all day long.

This might belong in the stupid question file but...How do you figure up what you should be loosing? I think my surgeon may have picked a weight for me that really isn't realistic. I honestly think that 130-140 might be a bit small. I'm already at 186 and everyone says that I'd look pretty strange much smaller.

You will lose at your speed, not anyone else's.
For the last 20 lbs of loss, I sought the help of Weight Watchers. I had my PCP give me a note for a slightly higher goal weight (to make up for the "skin weight" than WW guidelines, so I did not have to pay WW after goal/maintenance was established.

My dietician said that I would probably lose quickly for the first two months and then it would slow down ... a lot! Again, I think it is a case of trying to not raise my expectations too much. My big problem is that I had to go off all my arthritis meds pre-op and now walking is soooo painful. My doc said I can start swimming again in another two weeks. Yeah!

I am taking the full six weeks off. I was getting pretty burnt out at work and needed a break. I am going into week four and really just starting to move around a lot more. I still need my afternoon nap too!
I guess each person is different and it's up to you and your doctor. I just wish I could be doing more. Spring is here and there is a ton of yard work to be done. Not to mention I want to get back to the pool soon. My doc said that even though I am healing well on the outside, there is a lot of re-plumbing to heal inside!
