Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | And I have to say I am but also ![]() I found out this process that Trippler goes through is very very very long. It can be as short as 8 months or as long as 2 years before I can get the surgery. 1st I have to attend a meeting with this support group for 4 months then after the 4 months while still going to the support group I will then see a dietician for 3 months and after that then I meet with the surgeon and start seeing the psyciatrist(sp) for 3 months. Then its up to my surgeon to decided if I am mentally ready for the surgery Oh and also I found out that its an open RNY not lap. I feel like my dreams have been squashed. I know I am being really dramtic and all because I know this is for my own health that they want to make sure I am ready but uggggg such a long process. Anyways thats how today went |

| Super Moderator | Awwww((((((((HUGS))))))) Becka. Hmm...I suppose it's time for you to buckle down and be patient, if you can get through all the process, then you'll be sure to be able to get through what's awaiting you after surgery. Remember, it's a very big change and for the rest of your life, so your surgeon and his staff just want to be very very sure that you are well prepared to make it through. Also, I get the feeling the pre op preparations are getting more thorough because the number of surgery is going up, and along with it, the experiences of the surgeons and the post ops accumilate and work as feed back in refining the entire process to guarantee success. As I wrote in another thread, the more the surgeons know, the better prepared they are, and will work to better prepare you. When you look back later on, I'm sure you'll find that time had actually flown. ![]()

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Doc I know its for my own good. The Patient Liason I spoke with today explained it to my hubby and I. They want to make sure we are mentally ready for this life changing event. I am thankful they are being so thurough. They want us to succeed past the 2 years. They have had patience that have had it done and then 4 years out came back and weighing what they did pre surgery. Plus his is a military hospital and they ALWAYS take forever. The thing I am happiest about is my hubby is incouraged to come to every meeting I attend. I LOVE this exspecialy since he will be my biggest supporter. I am just dissappointed that its gonna take alot longer then I had expected. The plus side is I can hang out here while I wait ![]() |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | That seems like a VERY long time! Im sorry But it will definately be worth it in the end. On another note.. with your insurance, is there any other surgeons that you might be able to see about having the surgery? I heard that open RNY takes a lot longer to heal... dont know how true that is, but maybe another physician could do a lappy and a lot faster.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Phyllis Since I am going thru Tricare (military insurance) I have to use who they tell me to use. They offer the RNY here at our military hospital so I have to go through them. If I was in a state that didnt offer RNY at their Military Hospital I would be able to use an outside doc. I guess the open isnt as bad as death so I know I need to look on the positive side. If I stay like I am now I will surely be following in my dads footsteps and be dead at an early age from all my issues that are obseity related. I have had the whole day to think about this and I really think I will be ok. I will patiently (or not so) wait. And I will just hang out here supporting all my new friends on their journey. ![]() |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Becca, I understand.. I'm going through Tricare too. I am stationed at Ft. Carson. I just figured the same at every MTF. All I had to do was see my PCM, and go to one support group meeting, and 2 nutrition classes, and meet with the psychiatrist once to take a personality test, and do the orientation class. I thought that took sooooo long, but I am sorry that they are making you go through all that. I just thought it might be the same deal across the board. Well, good luck on your journey. If you need to know anything... just ask. I know tricare in and out.. i was a soldier until october, and now i am a spouse.. so i know both sides of the fence! Hope to talk to you more in the future!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Phyllis, Thank you so much for the support. I wish it was the same across the board. I had 2 friends who had it done while they were stationed at Ft. Hood and they didnt have near as much stuff to do. I guess I will use this time to research more on life after the surgery. Again thank you for your support. I am just amazed at how much support is here at the forum. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Chin up girl! The time will go quickly. Between going to the meetings and meeting with all the specialists your gonna stay busy and focused. As far as the open rny.....tadaaa! I was up and walking the day of surgery. If you need to talk about it let me know. Def find out if he requires an abdominal binder(thing has saved me on more than one occation). I believe Mike has also had open RNY. Your gonna do great!
