For MANY surgeons this is normal protocal to have their patients stay in ICU for the first 24 hours for CLOSE monitoring. VERY common for many, but no all. I think its an excellent way to ensure the hospitol staff closely monitors there patience. IN my case i had a room accross from the nurses station so they were able to check on me frequently and tend all my needs in a flash.
