Question My appetite has returned with a vengence!

My appetite seems to be up and running again. I've eaten all day long. I guess it's still nothing compared to what I used to eat pre op, but this really worries me. I'm 9 weeks post op. Anyone else experience this so soon?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Sometimes my stomach growls and I really feel hungry, other times, I just want to eat. Up until recently, I could go all day I think and not eat if I didn't know I HAD to!

Valerie, one more thing I wanted to mention to you since you are so new to this journey...take advantage of this time to amend your eating habits, getting used to your new way of eating.

Well when this happens to me....
i always have to BIG time cut back on my carbs
harshly. FOR me thats what triggers that kind of eating with me.
ONCE i go strict that seems to ease up.

TRY to focus on your rules from your doctor
and not to eat between meals. FOR me the
mini meals worked best for me, 3 reg meals and 2 or 3 snacks.
TO prevent out of control grazing. BUT TRUST ME
I HAVE BAD DAYS!

try to cut back your carbs...
INCREASE your protein
i know for me it will rid that urge a bit.
GOOD LUCK!
its hard at times and the surgery is a tool and
at times we have to work it.

another maybe here too if carbs arent
an issue are you drinking to soon after
your meal? and pushing it thru your stomach
to fast causeing premature hunger???
i know i have to wait after i eat and
thats a main reason why!
GOOD LUCK hope i helped some

Hi,
I'm at about the same stage, it'll be 9 weeks on Tuesday. I've been feeling hunger, also. I'll try monitoring the carbs more closely and see if that helps.. I've been using the "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" mantra. I think that was from Lisa (Fr1endly2). I don't want to overfill myself and part of me is truly scared about doing that.

Default Hey Howie girl!

Well, I am glad that you got your appetite back. It is a terrible thing to have gone without it. WE ALL LOVE TO EAT! You are right about the part of how much we all used to eat. GOOD GRIEF! Now, when I fill up my saucer, it is like, WOW!, am I going to be able to eat all that? lol I think that you are doing great. I was worried about that early out to, about the amount I was eating. As long as what is going in, is good for you, you don't have anything to worry about. I, for the record though, stick to a pretty strict schedule with my meal times. I was told that was important so that down the road, I didn't nestle into my old eating habits. MEANING, EATING ALL THE TIME, BEFORE BED, WHATEVER. LOL You are doing fine.

Tammy...thanks for the advice!

Since I am only allowed to drink clear liquids at this point.....I feel like I am "grazing" all day long because that is what they tell you to do.....sip sip sip all day long. I can put your advice in effect on Monday when I start eating semi solids. I will admit, I am a bit nervous.

Hi there..

It is totally normal to feel hungry at your stage. What you can do is make available to yourself the right foods to pick on if your hungry. The important thing to remember is we need to use this tool to train ourselves . Is it really hungery i am feeling? Am i bored? Am i upset? is this an emotional feeling and who did we turn to for years when we had these feeling, our best friend food! It is very important to get involved in support groups, therapy and any other kind of support we can find espically early out. The surgery was preformed on our stomach not our brains. We need to deal with issues in our lives that make us want to eat. We need to learn alternatives to dealing with the "head hunger" issues. But we are still going to slip back every now and then to our best friend its only normal. There fore keep "good" foods available so that if you need to you can pig out on strawberries and not cheesedoodles! best of luck to you. we are here for ya.

Hi y'all! Well, looks like I can make use of several of your suggestions.
1) I've never eaten on a regular schedule, I'm going to try that.
2) I DO still eat because I'm bored...the day I really noticed the hunger issue, we were snowed in here and I was very bored.
3) I've been grazing on pure carbs (chips, chex mix and that kind of thing) between meals. I had a talk w/ dear family to put these things out of sight for me.
Thanks!!

Valerie, see what I mean about taming the bad eating habits now during this window time for you! Focus on the protein! Get rid of the bad carbs!
