Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I made sure now for three days... and it looks like I'm there for good! Weighed in at 199.2 (for a loss of 128 lbs in 5 months and two weeks) for the past three days. WOW! What a great feeling! I haven't been in the one hundreds since high school! But it comes with a price... I'm starting to get really depressed. So much in my life has changed due to this surgery and I'm not adjusting well. I've been doubling up on my depression medications but I think I need more than that at this point. Anyone else struggle with depression? Thanks for the support ladies!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WOW congratulations!!!! isnt that the best seeing that number begin with a "1'' i know for me it was 17 years since i saw it and thats a long time and even then i didnt see it very long ...so i barely count it!!!!! As far as the blue STACIE, that was something i had trouble with understanding but it another effect of this surgery. I know for me i didnt quite get why if i lost over 100 pounds i wasnt happy and was emtionally a mess. I took some weight managment councling sessions. SO much goes on at once. IF you need a friend to to talk to feel free to PM or we can even swap numbers! HUGS lisa

| First off, CONGRATS ON A JOB WELL DONE, BY GETTING TO ONEDERLAND. You deserve all the praise in the world, and by the members here. WAY TO GO! Secondly, Yes, I have had depression symptoms since my weightloss. Due, to a MAJOR family issue that is currently going on, which I can't talk about, and the fact that my wife is having a really really hard time dealing with my weightloss. Don't get me wrong here, she has been GREAT, through it all. I couldn't have asked for anyone better, than the LOVE OF MY LIFE, to give me such GREAT support through all of this. She now, has a major obsession, and depression, with the fact that she thinks I am going to find someone else now, that I am thin. SOOOOOOOOOO NOT TRUE! I really don't know what I can say to her, and do for her that I haven't already said to her to ease that feeling. For me now, it is becoming that way as well. For different reasons, I guess, though. I am finding it easier now, to let things bother me, since my surgery. WEIRD HUH? ALOT MORE EMOTIONAL THESE DAYS. Hang in there, kiddo. All of us, at one time or another, have gone through a little depression since surgery. A BIG HUG FROM ME! mike |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | First off CONGRATS!!!!! You are doing amazing. You should feel so proud of yourself. Second it is normal to get a case of the blues, we are mourning our old selves at this point, the security that food used to give us and having to deal with alternative ways of dealing with life issues. All totally normal. However please if its to a point that you feel a need to increase your medications please find a therapist to talk to if your not doing so already. Find support groups in your area to talk to others that are dealing with similar issues. Your talking here which is a good help but not enough. Our lives change so fast and its scary. Tons of emotions go through us on this journey. But know you are not alone. We will get through this together. Keep us posted and keep up the good work. LittleLisaMarie |

| Super Moderator | Congratulations, Stacie, you are doing so well. Have you signed in in the Onederalnd thread in WOW moments? If not, won't you please do so? As for your depression, as a doc, I agree with LisaMarie, if you haven't been talking things over with your therapist, it's best you should. Has your medication been increased by your therapist, or did you increase the dosage on your own because you are feeling blue? If it's the former, discuss the possibility of switching medications. If it's the latter, confirm if it's OK with whomever prescribed the medication if you have not already. Meds don't neccessarily work better with the upped dosage, sometimes, it makes things worse, so, if it doesn't seem to work with you, the effectiveness of that particular med may have reached its limit, so you may need to either switch to, or add something else. Anyway, this is a job for your therapist/psychiatrist. Also, exercise and physical therapy will help boost your mood. I am sorry for the rough going you are having, and I can say that there are some others on this board going through similar issues, though they have not yet found the courage to say so. I can only say that I know so because I have been in private contact with those asking for advice. Do find a local support group where you can talk things directly with those on the same journey. (((((((HUGS)))))))

| First of all congrats on the weight loss, that is amazing. Seeing as I am preop I cannot give you any advice about post surgical depression, but I do suffer from depression and SAD(seasonal affective disorder) myself. I see you live in Pittsburgh, (I'm originally from Harrisburg) and the winter weather could possibly be a contributing factor. I have friends that tan for a ten minutes once a week and they say it really lifts thier spirits. I'm not suggesting you run out and start tanning like crazy, but ten minutes once a week can give you the broad spectrum light you may be needing. Also you might want to invest in a broad spectrum lamp but they are expensive. I have also put a "grow light" in a lamp and turn it on when I am reading. Try to make this earlier in the day though, I found when I put it on during the evening I couldn't sleep well at night.
