I think about food all the time etc. for the lst 3 years I had no appetite, no desire for food, I have developed bad habits. Any help or suggestions would be apprecaited. |

| Administrator | Hey Shorty, Welcome to Renewedreflections. I hope you dont mind that I moved your post to it's own thread. The first thing I would say is that you have done the right thing by reaching out. Take a deep breath and relax. Panicing has NEVER done any of us any good. Some others will chime in I'm sure, but being 9 years PostOp, one of the backwards things I had to learn was to stop fighting this. If it was a matter of my ability to fight this mental obsession off, then I would have never been in a desperate enough position to get gastric bypass. Remember that most people dont have to lie on a cold OR table with a surgeons hands in their gut in order to lose weight. When you had weight loss surgery you had to at some point admit that you couldn't win this battle on your own. You had to ask for help. Now that you are this far post op, you are now learning that the food nor tummy was the problem. They were symptoms. Most of us didn't really have eating problems, we had living problems. Once we come to this realization, we find that here too we are just not qualified to win this battle without the help of others. This kiddo, is the GOOD news. Welcome home. You have indeed found this help. We rely on God and each other to quiet the raging voices of compulsive eating and other behaviors. This will be a process, not a quick fix. When you are looking for a true break-thru, you don't find it in the drive-thru. Raise the white flag of defeat. You cannot win this battle on your own. The quicker you admit defeat with this, the sooner a loving God can have all of us really help in your recovery. The cool part is that you are not alone. Now, step away from the Ben and Jerry's...... and get ready for a tsunami of hugs from all of the wonderful folks here you just happen to be going through the same thing you are. Blessings,

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, Shorty! No need to panic, I think you know very well yourself that panic will not help you. Thank you for trusting us and reaching out for help. You know, everyone gets off track from time to time, and that's why we are here, to share what's bugging you. Post, vent, here, or join us in chat. Don't commiserate, you know you have done extremely well. You have been given the power within yourself to make this right, so trust yourself that you can get back on track. Write down 10 reasons you decided to make this journey. Write down 10 things that have changed for you, that are good for you, since you've had this surgery. Are they worth the effort you have made up to now? Are they worth the effort for you to keep on going? I am sure they all are. The first thing for anyone to do, is to go back to the basics. No matter where you are on your journey, whether only days out, weeks out, months out, or years out. The first thing for you to go back to the basics of where you are--for you, the rule of the pouch. No need to feel guilty that you have food on your mind all the time, food, after all, is what we need to survive. Just make sure that you are making the right choices with them. Check out how much you are actually eating, utilize fitday, or any other tool that might help, such as http://www.ars.usda.gov/Services/docs.htm?docid=7783 http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov Utilize the recipe section of the main pages of this forum, as well. http://www.renewedreflections.com/ca...ypass-recipes/ I can see in your profile that you love dancing. Dancing is good exercise. You may have stopped going to Curves, but maybe you can take up dancing for exercise. Do something that you love, and will give you exercise while you are at it. Kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. Remember, everyone messes up once in a while. (I'll tell you a secret, Craig's known to have messed up, but don't let the others know Know that you have been gifted with the strength within you to make it through, so you can. May your journey go well. __________________

| Newbie | My sweet daughter in law who had surgery 4 weeks ago directed me to this website. You are all terrific. I am feeling somewhat better already. You are correct that the problem is life and life's situations that are bothering me.....not food. I know that in my heart of hearts, I knew it way before WLS and I know it now. I have returned to Curves and am I praying that God will help me.. I know He has brought me this far and He will not let me fail now. Thank you for the hugs and kind words. I am off to write down the 10 reasons why I had WLS and the 10 things that have changed in my life. Only problem is I have way more than just "l0" things to write about. My life has changed in so many areas it's unreal! |
