Exclamation TV shows, have some mercy!

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been contributing much in the RR forum except for my daily food, but today I can't stop myself from posting this!

I can't tell you how I am stressed a lot to reach my target by my one year anniv. (4/18/07) and Gosh I still have 71lbs to lose! my baby target for the moment is to lose 2.5kg's (~5.5lbs) I wanna break down the 100kg's cutoff but my scale is now stalling for a week!

Anyway....

Today when I was jogging on my fav. treadmill I had small TV installed to kill the time while I'm working out and I was switching from one channel to the other and Ohhh GOD all the channels were if not showing morning talk shows like Martha Stewart or the View or Tayra show all were showing food and food and nothing else but food! and even when there is a commercial advertisement in between it's about food! Isn't this a brain wash??!!!! what the hell is this have some mercy on people!! I mean isn't there anything else except feeding stomachs? how about feeding brains and souls? this is totally ridiculous!!! just watching these shows made me feel

tell you the truth I had to look down or maybe close my eyes while watching a show and then they got food ads every 5 min's it's really frustrating!

Do you have the same concern too!

Cheers,
Hanadi

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

It is very true. Every channel does that. THe kids channels do it even worse with all the mcdonalds and sugary cereal and candy comercials. It is what pays the bills in this food driven world ...Even poor Al Roaker gets the food segments on the morning news show he does lol.....ITs sad . DOnt like it but again money talks and they need to pay the bills for the shows so they dont care we are all getting fatter and fatter because their pockets are geting fatter and fater.

Thumbs down Kids are the victim

Little LM well said! Exactly true about we get fatter along with their pockets get fatter too! I feel petty for the children how the hell they can resist all those fatty sugary adds! I mean my little Jude is one of them! Since we went to Leeds and she's putting weight considerbely! My angle weighs now ~27kgs (~59.5lbs) and the poor thing is still 3 1/2!! I'm trying a lot to control the quality of her food more natural, rich in fiber, skimmed milk and non added sugar juices. She has lost ~2kgs since we came back but it's tough to monitor what she eats at the nursery although I prepare her breakfast/snack box but I'm sure she might eat something out of the menu!

I feel so guilty towards her, part of it was the nanny she fed her with lots of rice and potato's while I was away either at work or at school it's all because of me

I cut all the cookies, chocolates and potato chips from the house! but when she gets out or to my mom she slips again.

I also encourage my little baby to have mommy-baby quality time that we workout together I have some nice exercise DVD's, she feels tired quickly.

I don't want for my beloved daughter to end up with miserable childhood and adulthood like her mom

Hey, Hanadi, I'm glad to hear you are taking good care of your girls as well as taking care of yourself.

It's soooo important to teach kids healthy eating while they are small, and parents can control what food there is at least in their home, even if not away from home. Just as important is that little children move a lot in their play. Heck, little kids are supposed to be on the run all the time that moms and dads are worn out everyday chasing after them.

You know, when my girls were little, I never let them have carbonated drinks, always told them, the taste is "too hot" for little kiddies, so you have to wait till you get bigger. When they were about 5 or 6, we went to a carnival where they gave out a free can of carbonated drink to the kids. Well, after the first sip, they both said "Yuck" and gave the can to me. (Nope I didn't finish them off, they ended up going down the drain. )
Ever since then, they have never brought home carbonated drinks, nor order them when we're out eating.

Strike the steel while hot.

Thumbs up

Hanadi, I feel your pain when it comes to those commericals. It's all about money, money, money! Food sells and those people are in it to make money. Keep doing what your doing with the girls and things will work out for you and for them. You do all that you can do for them and everything else will fall into place. Talk to you soon!

Happy Losing!

Debbie

Yes these kids need us to be good examples. I try to stock up with good snacks for the kids. DOnt get me wrong we have sugar cereals and some cookies and stuff but i am very careful not to let them have to much of that crap. I feel if the kid is really really hungry , they will eat what you feed them. I was watching Dr Phil the other day and they had these obese children on. One little boy was so obese he could hardly walk. Well the father got wind of it {they were divorced} and fought for custody. Do you know that kid dropped so much weight in one year. The father said he did not give into temper tantrums, did not stock up on the fat foods and re trained him. Got him exercising and now he is healthy. THe mother said she used to give into his temper tantrums because it was easier. Dr Phil emphasises that although we love our children we need to let them know who is in charge. We are not there friends and we are helping them in the long run. Us having this surgery is such a blessing to us as well as our families. Its gives us the opportunity to help them realize what they are putting in their bodies as well. My daughter dropped 15 pounds in the first year that i had surgery. She reads labels and is careful now what she eats. They ask more questions now as well.

Love Ya

I agree with all of you. Ads in general can be insidious.
I have a degree in comercial art and love the art/copy writing part but if you think about it...it is a brainwash as Hanadi says. I decided that selling soap by the design and color of the package rather then contents was not what I wanted to do with my life. So I switched to cooking which is probably worse for me because it's like an alcoholic being a bartender. Yikes! Smoth move.
Sorry for meandering...it's Sun. AM and I have the right. lol
The point is, when I was a very small child is when my bad eating habits started. NOT by my mother but by what my older sisters gave me to eat. I developed a huge fat & starch tooth. My mom always tried to eliminate them and had me on a Drs. diet by the time I was in 2nd grade. She truly tried her best but because of family dynamics, I did my best to sneak food for a sedative and the rest is history.
We are constantly bombarded with food ads and "junk" for the mind. Wouldn't it be cool if there was an NPR type of trend where shows and media aimed at filling the mind and soul as Hanadi suggested? Chuppy you are so right. Madison Ave. needs more people like you!

I agree with you all 100%. Handi what you are doing for your little girl is awesome. I commend you on that. In this world today everything revolves around food and they wonder why we are getting so fat?

Hanadi,

This was such a good topic to bring up! My daughter is now 20 years old, and although she fights her weight, and will always have to, she is still a very active young lady. I knew I had a problem when she was younger, so I got her into all kinds o sports. She surfed, played volleyball, softball, did horseback riding and was a very busy kid! Now she is getting ready to volunteer to help coach kids in softball this year. I did a terrible job on the food front, but at least I kept her active.

The fact that you are addressing this now, will help your daughter when she is older.

TV commercials are terrible! There are so many more than when I was growing up. We didn't allow our daughter TV until she was four years old. She is a TV junkie now though! And you are right, they put food, food and more food. And not good food either!

You should be very thankful that these are all things you are seeing now while your little one is still young enough to get value out of your experiences.

Hugs,
Bren
