Default NIHPS?Nesdioblastosis

Hello old friends and welcome to any newbies.
I am doing a small update here and I have started a blog on notepad here on my lap top that I will post when I am finally out of my feeling like crap. As some of you know I have been for the past year having test after test and being finally sent to specialists about my low blood sugar. And again thanks to DOC for sending me my first info on this problem that is showing up more and more post RNY.
Before I forget I want to let you oldies know that this problem is not only showing up in new ops but also in people that have been doing well for years. So if you have symptoms like feeling bad or faint or sweating in an hour or so after you eat and it just doesnt feel like dumping which it doesnt. But I have had a dump and a crash on occasion and if you think dumping is bad ha.. This brings it to new levels..

I have links that I will be posting and a general time line of what has been happening to me. But for now I have had multiple MRI and CT scans and blood work and some of the blood work, what is called a mixed meal study I had to have ordered by a specialist endo doc. I think part of that was due to the fact that most endos dont even know how to find the numbers and where to send the blood. ( Mayo clinic btw gets all the blood work for the detailed tests). I failed this test with bad numbers... Peptides and insulin levels were way high and my blood sugar after an hour and fifteen was in the 40s they had to hurry and get my blood I was crashing fast.

Two weeks ago I had a Arterial calcium stimulation test which is not pleasant and an out patient surgery in its own right. And also only done at special hospitals but this test gives them a detailed view of what is going on and special number ranges to let them know how much to remove.
I unfortunately did bad in three of the five artery tests. I have to have the tail and body of my pancreas removed and my spleen as well.

I had some response in the fourth arterial injection but the numbers were not bad enough to include them in the removal for now anyway. Some people have had a recurrence and lost the rest of their pancreas.

If you want to look online about some of this stuff before I get my blog posted type in the names in the title of this post. And make sure you look at the good sites like Mayo clinic and NEJM New England Journal of med.
NEJM -- Hyperinsulinemic Hypoglycemia with Nesidioblastosis after Gastric-Bypass Surgery

This is a start if you are interested and cant wait for me.

Please talk to Doc here if you have symptoms and when you talk to your doctor take print outs of information with you and dont let them look at you like your crazy, because not many doctors even the RNY docs know what this is all about and we all know that if they dont know about it well it just isnt..

Sorry if I am babbling but I have not slept in weeks waiting for the test itself and then the results and well it has taken a year to get where I am. Also there are medications you can take to help you with this and if you are early on it can help give you peace of mind and not worry about a sugar drop that will make you crash or coma during sleep. The med is called Precose or generic is acarbose. Keep these names in mind as well because sometimes you have to take charge but you want to look informed and not make your doc feel like you are being condescending but this is serious and gets worse as time goes on. Some people are lucky and it takes years longer then my two but I started this about six months after surgery and it just got worse and worse but I had other health problems going on as well and thought part of it was related to those things.

I am on facebook under Lisa Hess reading pa my pic is a tinkerbell if you want to add me and msg me there for questions feel free but please put on your invite you are from here and please do not post anything to my wall about this or RNY keep that private please in my msgs.. Most ppl on there do not know about this and I want to keep it that way.. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

I have my pre surgical cardiac and pulmonary stuff finished and just need my blood work... Well and a picc line when I go in.. it should be fun times.. I call tomorrow to set up my surgery dates. If I do not get my stuff in my blog on here before surgery I will work on it when I get home.. Depression and no sleep has made me very unwilling to type like I am now.. I had to push myself all day to do this..

Have a nice weekend all and hugs to all those that have helped me along my journey here as well. Doc you are the best and we are really at a loss for not having your practice here in the states.. We need more like you dear.. Hugs to you, you really helped me literally keep me out of a coma with your help. It may not seem like much to you but you sent me in the right direction and let me know it wasn't all in my head..

I will post more asap.. Love you guys..

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Much love to you girl and cudos for posting on here about this!

I hope that Amanda? I think it copies this for her EMT partner who it sounds is going through this so she will truly understand that this IS VERY SERIOUS. It is NOT 'hypoglycaemia' and you can die if this is not treated.

I know you have been very brave through this process of getting tests, fighting to get treatment, the RIGHT treatment, and finding the RIGHT DOCTOR to get this worked out.

love and hugs to U and of course you KNOW you are in my prayers.

Personally I think every single person should print off Doc Sanae's post she did about this and her thoughts on the 'why's' of it AND print off the info from the link they provided and give it to their surgeons AND their PCP's.
They need to KNOW how to treat this and not let it get out of control or worse keep telling us it is 'just in our head/stress/depression' or "you need to eat more often or add sugar in"..!!what?!

Thanks soooo much for your update. You have always been on my mind.
(((HUGS))) I hope all goes well once an for all, and you will be out of all the pain you have had to endure, and finally embark on a life that you can truly enjoy.

Thanks for the NEJM article link, too, I haven't had the time to do any searching, but what I have been suspecting all along seems to be correct.

Here's the link to my thread that BreeChick has mentioned. You'll have to scroll down to post #7 for the post relevant to this thread.

Thank you for the heads up on this. I will definately be passing along this info to not only my partner, but also the 2 other paramedics that I work with that have had RNY. I hope everything goes well with your surgery, and that it resolves your issues.
