Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello Everyone! Hope you are all having a great Valentine's day so far. I have a question, and need an opinion from those of you that have been through the surgery. Last night, I was getting ready to get in the shower, and all of the sudden I had the worst pain I have ever felt in my stomach, and it felt like maybe I had air or something in there, but it hurt to breathe, and I couldn't even take a deep breath without excruxiating pain in my ribs and back, right in the middle. I talked with a friend who has been through the surgery, and she said that is what she felt when she had problems with her gall bladder. This lasted for 2 hours, and I didn't want to go to the ER, because I would have felt like an idiot if they just told me it was gas! But I was having to rock back and forth just to ease the pain a little, and I couldn't lay down, cause it made it worse in my back. Finally, I went to the bathroom, and started coughing, and I spit up a bit (not much at all), and it was still hurting after that, so I thought I would drink some water maybe to help, and that made it hurt worse! But after about 20 min. it went away, and I was fine. Has anyone else gone through this? I don't know if it might be my gall bladder, cause every female on my moms side of the family has had to get theirs removed, or what else could it have been? Any suggestions, or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | well i would put a call into your surgeon. THEY seem best to be able to tell by the pain described if its gall bladders verse post op gas. FOR mE i never had these gas matters that are so painful in m life till post op. THE great thing is if i use a gas x usually i begin to let "pass my gas" and the pain eases. I have always tried that first and always the pain left so i ruled it as that. OF COURSE if i didnt start passing....i would have called my doctor. I also tended to have alot of uncomfy discomforts post op which really i shouldnt have ignored and maybe it would have been reliazed i had the ulcer before it had a bleed...so its very important to let your surgeon be aware of any and all discomforts and pains! HANG in there i bet that was scary! IF your ever scared feel free to pic up a phone and call me ANY HOUR!!! OKAY????!!!! hapy valentines day back at you !

| Super Moderator | ((((((((HUGS))))))) Now, you probably had gall bladder study done pre op. Were you diagnosed for GB stone then? If not, then most likely not stones, as even if the surgery puts you at risk for developing some, you are too early out yet for that to come about--you need a couple more months there. That said, the first thing to do is to call your surgeon and talk to him. Anything that happens this early out post op, the priority is the surgeon, no matter how silly you may feel in calling him. Whether it really is silly or not, is for your surgeon to decide, not you. He will be expecting you to make calls like this, as he has as much at stake at the success and no complications of your surgery as you do. ((((((HUGS))))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Phyllis Ann first of all (HUG) for the rough pain you had! I'm really sorry that it lasted for 2 hours I know with such a pain it would feel like 2 months or 2 years! I totally can relate to it because I had such a pain pre-op while pregnancy and in my normal days around hmm I think 6 or 7 times I had to get admitted in the hospital have Oxygen mask on and also get a drip installed with Pascoban (spelling) it was horrible!! the worst in the world! and guess what was the reason? I had 9 stones in my gall bladder!!! I couldn't do anything about it while I was pregnant so the surgeon that did my surgery recommended that I deliver the baby and do the GB. Anyhow, when Dana became 5 months I was totally depressed about my weight and about this pain and also about my unsuccessful gastric banding which I had back on 2000 so I went to him and told him either we do something serious about it or I don't have interest to live, so please help! On April 18, 2006 I had 3 in 1 (Removed the band, the GB and did the RNY) and I can't tell you ohhh what a relief! At least I don't have that pain anymore and don't want even to imagine it! My heart is with you buddy, it worths checking it out! Love, Hanadi
