Thanks, Doc I had an Endoscopy and my surgery pouch is in tact. The stoma looked good, too. I had heard about Malabsorptive surgery, but my doctor frowns on this. Looks like it is up to me, now. Thanks for the reply, Doc Sandy

Sandy, you're welcome. I know a lot of people gain back weight and despair and give up. DON'T!!!! As I said, you still have your tool. Find a support group close to you, get a nutritionist who works with WLS patients to help you get your eating back on track, if you find you have emotional issues where food is concerned, seek therapy if you need, too, there are lots of things you can do to work you yourself, lots of people who can help you. Use them all, and I am sure you will be able to lose what you gained back again, and then lose some more!!!! You probably realize, back in 1995, the importance of support was not understood to the level it is now. CraigT, who hosts this site once told me that when he had RNY in 1997, there was no support to speak of, so he stressed the importance of support to his surgeon, and worked on having the surgeon start a support group. With the kind of support that exists now, you WILL be able to make it through and stay where you need to. I hope this board will help you, too. ((((((((HUGS)))))))) May your journey go well!!

Doc, You are the best. And you are right. There was absolutely no support back in 1995. My doctor today has reccommended a special nutritionist just as you have. I guess, I just see surgery as the magic solution. I want more surgery. What do you think about additional surgery? and what? Sandy

My advice is to work with what tool you have now first, and see how much you can do. You realize, with additional surgery, you may or may not lose the weight you want to, and also that the true work comes when you are at where you must maintain. In other words, surgery will let you lose weight for a while, but beyond that, unless you change your eating habits, the weightloss will not stay with you. What you can do now with the tool you have, and what you will need to do even if you have additional surgery, are the same. No offense, but if you can't, or won't relearn how to use your pouch now, then, chances are, you are going to have a hard time adjusting post op with a revised pouch as well. So, even if you decide in the end to have a revision, if you have worked to use your pouch as much as you can, you will be able to work better with the revision as well. Even though it seems that surgery magically poofs your weight away, actually, what you need to do to lose your weight and maintain is the same as with non-ops. Eat healthy and in moderate amounts, and exercise well. So, I say, take your dr's advice, and work with the nutritionist he(she?) has recommended. Start there, and see how much you can do. Even if the weightloss isn't as fast as it was immediately post op, the total amount will most likely reach what you were able to before. It's never too late to consider additional surgery after that. ((((((((HUGS)))))))

Tam, Personally I dont know. I would feel bad if I thought someone was watching what I put in my mouth. My Doc told me that he only seen weight gain if now im quoting him ( when you start eat mashed potaotes and icecream again in large amounts). Yea one day if you get into a converstation with them you can speak about pouch rules etc... Besides that I would probally not watch them. They know the rules. And it is there body. |
