Thumbs down Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh, Again!

So I took another blood test for my hbA1C, last month it went up from 7.2 to 7.3. So I had been following the diabetic diet for two months, (with a little slipping but not like when it was 7.2 and I was eating everything in site) my doctor upped one of my meds so we could get it down to 7.0 and guess what.....

It went up again!!!!!! 7.5 this time. I cannot freakin' beleive it!!! Now I am being sent to an endocronologist and the Diabetic Center at the hospital. The surgery center told me that everyone they have sent to this doctor has gotten their levels down. It may take a couple more months but they assured me it will happen.

I really feel like kicking somebody. I was sure it was going to be down and I was going to have my surgery in two weeks.

Doc, I have a question for you. I have had a sinus headache for two weeks now, and in the last two days developed a sore throat and earaches. I have been taking Ibuprofen for the headaches. Could this affect my A1C level?

My doctor had told me in the past that stress can raise your levels, and I certainly have that at work. Our jobs are being moved to Columbus OH in June 2008 and people are finding new jobs, I am hiring and training new people, and the ones that can't find jobs are whinning and complaining constantly.

I have also told the dietician that if I don't keep my carbs around 30-40 grams a day I get cravings that I can't control and start eating sweets.
She insisted that I need to get in 150gm a day. I have an appt with her tomorrow. I'm sure she will insist again that I stick to that diet. I am going to try to convince her that I would be better on the 2 week pre-op low carb diet. If she still insists, I will do the low carb anyway and tell her at the next appt what I did.

This just sucks out loud!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

The Ibuprofen shouldn't affect your A1C, in other words, your blood sugar level(long term), but the sinus infection will, as all infections affect your sugar level. It might be better to be referred to an ENT and have your sinus infection treated as well as seeing the endocrinologist.
Stress makes the blood sugar level goes up, too, so it looks like you had two things going on simultaneously that disrupted your A1C level.

As for your carbs. Does even wholesome carbs, like whole grain bread and such, make you crave? If so, then it's understandable you want to go low carbs, but if the cravings can be curbed when the carbs are carefully chosen, it is preferable that you get at least 130g (yes, 130 is the lowest recommended daily amount actually, you need that much to keep your brain cells in good working order, the 150 your dietician says is caluculated from your height and medically preferable weight)
If you are at a loss what are wholesome carbs and what aren't ask your dietician point on point, which ones are wholesome ones, and have him/her help you in planning an actual menu that you can use.

Default Hello Jeanne

I hear you as well, especially with the cravings when trying to low carb it. Some days, I feel as though, I could pull my hair out because the cravings are so bad. HONEST! I do slip every now and then, but I just try to keep my hands busy, and out of the cupboard. Most of the time, it does work. Still going strong with my maintenance phase though, but somedays, OOF!, it is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelly hard. I am sorry to hear about your issue at hand. That has to be major stress in itself. Try and hang in there, sweetie. Your day will come. We are all here for you.

Yes, Doc, any kind of starch gets me going. I am better of getting my carbs from vegtables and some fruits. If I eat too high of carb in fruits it will set me off too. That is why I did so well on Atkins, but after a year and slowly increasing my carb according to the diet I ended up going hog wild again. I am a carboholic.

Oh man. I am sorry that it didn't work out again. I had type 2. My levels always went up during stress and when I got ill.
I hope next try is the charm! Hang tight.
