Hanadi,
Thank you for the caring reply. Yes it is hard to lose a loved one. I know they're in a better place and happy. I know I'll see them again.
I was a neonatal nurse for 30 yrs., so working with my wee patients helped me thru at times.
I worked with a Doctor from Kuwaiit and we did social things with he and his family. I must say your culture is beautiful and compassionate.
Take care,
Kathy

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Jeanne, My marriage should only last as long as yours has so far. As far as the dressing alike thing, must of been a sign of the times. My mom used to do the same thing. I was the dark, curly haired one and my sister was the light brown straight haired one. Because of my weight, everyone assumed I was the older one.

Default Hi, I'm Michael Brandon

Gidday

I am Michael Brandon from Auckland New Zealand. I am very happily married to Diane whom I married rather young, and had our first baby around her 21st birthday. Now 15 years later we have 5 wonderful children - Sarah, Emily, Jonathan, Elena and Esther.

Sarah has her first after school job at a butcher, Emily is our cheerleader extraordinaire, so many practices every week in preparation to go to a championships in Australia in several months. Jonathan loves computers and runescape. Elena loves the monkey bars. Esther is so cute, our 2 year old.

Craig Thompson invited me here to help out with the search engine optimization of RenewedReflections. Now I am looking after the newsletters, adding the header photos, SEO, and continued enhancement of the forum. Its a fun place to be around, and I certainly love it.

I am a rather passionate person. I love playing my flute and loving and worshiping Jesus, and telling others about him. We go to a local Baptist church that is big time into the community. Horticulture training, and training for troubled youth, budgeting, foodbank, kindergarten, a 200+ employee home help business, emergency housing, low cost housing initiatives with the Government, ... All very cool. Diane my wife helps in the toy library and kids "Mainly Music" toddler dance group.

At our weekly church group that meets at our home, we are going through the Just walk across the room series by Bill Hybels. Talking to people about Jesus is my true passion, and its awesome to be studying a topic that I love so much.

My sister Sharon is a doctor and soon to be full time on the mission field as a Doctor in Papua New Guinea. Had a good yarn with her yesterday. Its good to have family. Maria is living in our home town Wanganui with her Jewish husband and their newborn. Stephen is married and living in Glasgow Scotland with his wife and two darling children. He has been a missionary in Czech Republic for several years, and is currently working as a computer techy for Operation Mobilisation (OM). Just had a skype yarn with him. Good to connect again.

My parents have a honey bee business in Wanganui New Zealand - Canaan Honey.

Then there is me - my work passion is helping people be the best they can be on the search engines. I own the business SearchMasters Search Engine Optimization Consultants. Part of the business is traveling around New Zealand taking seminars and teaching web developers how to do their business better Lots of fun.

How about it. Thanks for having this introduction thread.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Shannon and I am 30years old and live in Ohio. I had laproscopic RNY on October 30, 2006. I have 3 sons, 2 from my previous marriage and 1 from my fiance. I was not heavy all my life. Most of my weight came on when I started going thru health problems and lots of meds (1999), which turned out to be fibromyalgia. Then in 2002 I almost lost my life when my ex-husband tried to kill me. After that I gained some more weight.
I met my fiance 7 months later and hes great. My sons are 11, 8 and 1. My weight before surgery was 307 and on day of surgery 292. I am now at 215 and feeling great. I did however have a few complications after surgery (bowel onstruction right after, stricture 1 month after) but with the wonderful work of my dr's am doing great. I plan to start back to school in the fall to finish my criminal justice degree, which I have about a year to a year and a half left. Although I am not a big poster, I do come and read a lot. Time and a young one make it hard to get on and do much..lol
Im just really glad to have founf this site!

Default My turn

Hello everyone...
My name is Erin (nickname Lilly); I am 29yrs old, single living in Windsor Ontario. I am the youngest of 4 children; my siblings are all a bit older than me. My two brothers are 40 (lives in British Columbia) and 35, my sister is 37 (despite my brother's opinion I was planned ) I was a figure skater for about 14 years and did not have a weight problem growing up but after being diagnosed with a thyroid problem when I was 18 the competitive nature in me kinda slowed as I lost my energy and gained a few pounds. My real weight problem stated when I was 20 , I had two surgeries in 9 months (1st minor, 2nd major) I was off my feet for several weeks and not able to skate or workout for 6 months, but I was still hungry / eating like an athlete and gained a fair bit of weight. With the weight gain came depression because I wasn't able to do what I loved, so I ate more and topped out at 220lbs. In 1998 I started my first year of an accounting program in college, and worked at small casino as a cashier after school. 10 months later I was hired as a full time supervisor, left school, and was transferred to a small casino London, Ontario (1999). This was the first time living on my own; it was so scary and wonderful at the same time. But I only knew the people that I worked with who had also transferred from Windsor, and we did a lot of restaurant eating as we got to know the city which = more weight gain. Finally when I reached 284lbs I joined Jenny Craig. I had some success in losing the weight and got down to 238lbs. I felt great but slowly moved away from the program because it became more expensive than my rent. I managed to keep most of the weight I had lost off until my father suddenly passed away from heart failure in 2003. It destroyed me.
He was my best friend (along with my mother) I talked to him everyday since I had moved away and after he passed away I felt so lost and didn't know what to do with myself. that same year I was transferred with my work again to a small town near Guelph (ironically this is where I will have my surgery) and in my depression gained 70lbs hitting an all time high of 326lbs
In 2004 I was finally able to transfer with work back to my home town of Windsor to be closer to my mother and the rest of my family. I am now a surveillance operator back in the same small casino I started with 9 years ago but unfortunately it is a desk job to say the least, so there is little to know activity in my day. So I have joined a gym, started eating better and am patiently waiting for my WLS which has now been pushed back to august. I am so glad that I found this website and all of you, I have learned so much and will continue to learn more every day... THANK YOU

wow that was way longer than i thought it would be

Smile Newbie

Hi there - I'm Christine or Chrissy. I'm a newbie here and loved reading about all of you. I am 37 years old and I live in Northern NY...about as far north as you can get. My house is 5 miles from the Canadian border. I am getting married this year to the greatest guy in the world. We have been together for most of the past 10 years. He has 4 boys from a previous marriage so there aren't more children in our future. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats who may be more trouble than kids!!

I am a service coordinator for individuals with disabilities and I love my job. My co-workers are wonderful and I can honestly say I look forward to going to work every day. I'm very fortunate. I am looking at going back to school this summer for some graduate courses. Haven't quite decided what I want to take yet, but it will be something in the counseling field. I also teach piano 4 days/wk. and I play piano and direct the choir at my church. I was actually a piano major the first time I went to college so it's nice to be able to use that and to pass on my training to others.

I have been overweight my whole life. My mom says that when I was a baby I was so fat that it looked like she put rubber bands around my arms and legs. As a kid I wasn't so overweight, maybe 20-40 lbs. at any given time. I remember being a teenager and hearing about stomach stapling and wishing I could have it done. Even at that young age, I already felt that I had no control. I starved myself down to 155 lbs. my junior year and I'm sure I ruined my metabolism with all the yo-yo ing in the the following years. I finally got to be 328 lbs. and started researching RNY. I have several co-workers who had it done with Dr. Graber in Utica. He is just awesome!! He has the best track record and had done 700 RNY's at that point with only 1 person lost to infection and virtually no complications. (Last I heard he's up to 900!) Last May I went for my consult and had Lap RNY on 9-13-06. Since then I have lost 93 lbs. and I feel great! I have had no complications. I go for my 6 month checkup next week.

Well, that's my story....I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Christine

Default Ms Vickie Another Newbie

Hi my name is Vickie. I live in the beautiuful Blue Ridge Mountians in Virginia. I was married for the first time in Jan 2006. Took me 41 years to find the right fella. Hes a retired United States Airforce Officer. I have one son that is 22. I have been overweight I suppose my entire life. The only time in my life I managed to loose weight was after the death of my mother. She wanted me to loose weight so I would not die a early death. My mother was overweight. Her life was cut short from breast cancer at 47. I remember walking in the hosptial room after one of her surgerys she was crying saying they brought in what looked like a cattle scale to weigh her in bed.

I have had one of them rollercoaster lives. Taking care of everyone in my family but my own self. Now my life has calmed down in the last 5 years I have spent alot of time researching this surgery.

My husband is very supportive of this surgery. We have had many long discussions about it. I know I will have to have this done to live. Im currently 5'10 and weigh 347lbs. I remember looking at the scale going ok now your cant go over 200 then 225 then 250. When I hit the 300 mark i cried. Now almost 350 im gonna change it. I work for a Ear Nose and Throat Dr. I do love my job!

I had Knee surgery for a messed up knee cap. During that time the man i work for said Vickie you gotta drop that weight. Even he cant undersand why I just cant stop eating. Im like Doc look, you wont know what this is ever gonna be like until your there. Trust me. I cant do this on my own no more. The quote I got from him was ( Its all in your mind). I told him Hell my minds fine the body needs help. LOL! And as for taking up running

Why should I punish my legs for somthing my mouth did? Ha Ha

I know I will have to start walking and exceriseing before and after this surgery. I look foward to it ! Cant do a Gym its 1 hr away so these country roads are gonna have to do it for me. Im long winded arnt I?
Great to meet you all !

Vickie
