I have seen some threads on strawberries and decided it was time to try some fruit.....surgery was on 12/8. They sure do agree with me.....I have always liked them but was afraid to try them just yet. Now for the kicker....i started dipping the little red jewels in wheat germ.....tasted great....then I started to dip them in wheat getrm and bee pollen (not the bee pollen in pill form folks the real deal, looks a bit like wheat germ) that tasted great.....and finall I mix the wheat germ and the bee pollen in honey for a great tasting dip for the strawberries (and healthy). And living in Miami I have the luxury of not having to pay prices you guys up north have to pay. Strawberries at publix yesterday was $1.25 a lb. Oh yeah started at 286lbs.....this morning 208lbs.....to cool

Ahhh, beware of those little dippings, they are loaded with calories, carbs and sugars. They are low in volume, high in calorie/carb/sugar stuff. They can cause cravings and/or dumping if done in excess. I would stick to just them little ol' strawberries if I were you.
FYI nutrient info (per 100g-- a little over 3.5oz) Wheat germ 382kcals, protein 29.1g, fat 10.7g, carb 49.6g (of this, sugar 7.8g) saturated fatty acids 1.83g. Bee pollen 314kcals, protein 24.1g, fat 4.9g, carbs 43.5g (of this, sugar 35.8g) saturated fatty acids 3.465g Honey 304kcals protein 0.3g, fat 0g, carbs 82.4g (of this, sugar 82.12g)
Read the lables carefully of every/any food that you purchase.
Use sites like What's in the Food You Eat to check out the nutrients of just about all food stuff, if they aren't labled.
Take good care of that precious pouch of yours, may your journey go well, ((((((((HUGS)))))))

gotta love living in the south! strawberries are 2.00 a quart and thats high here. april we will be in strawberry season and then we go to the farms. they run around 7 per gallon. I eat mine straight up or with a tad of splenda. I am going to try my hand at making the no sugar added jam this year.

What about eating with plain nonfat yogurt? I have been eating the parfaits from mcd's in the morning they have only 90 cal and not too much sugar. They are perfect on the run and have strawberries & blueberries in them.

Knightiron, I know it's discouraging when you find a snack that really works for ya and then find out it's maybe not as good a choice as you thought.
Just keep in mind, this is a journey, you will make mistakes, and learn much along the way.
My advice would be this. Enjoy your dipped strawberries in moderation, as a treat, not as one of your staples. They will taste even better to ya that way!

My thoughts here. If you are in an area where you can get fresh and delicious strawberries relatively easily, it isn't a bad idea to get used to and enjoy the natural flavor of them--unless they are soooo tampered with and the taste is artificial, as modern produce some times are these days.
Also, one of the reasons I am discouraging especially honey and the wheat germs is their high carbohydrate/sugar content. While many of you are aware that you have carb addiction, so know any form of extra carb throws a curb in their healthy eating, some of you out there may not be aware that you might have carb addiction, and find yourself in a craving pattern without realising what is going on.
If you can train yourself and your palate to enjoy the natural flavor of your food, without rich and savory dippings, gravy and sauce (which can add hidden calories and fat into your food without your realising what is happening) it helps a long way in developing a healthy palate and healthy eating.
Being aware of what is going into your mouth, and therefore into your body, is the best way to keep track, stay on track, achieve goal and maintain.
In any case, balance and moderation is the key.

I recently got a Magic Bullet and decided to try something for breakfast this morning. I used one of the drink cups and filled it 3/4 full with frozen straberries. Then I put in 3 packets of Splenda and filled it to the top with Skim Milk. I whirred that baby up and it was absoultely delicious.
It reminded me of a Strawberry milkshake.
I am pre op so the 3 Splenda was just right for me. I understand post op things tast much sweeter so maybe I will have to skip the Splenda then.
I just wanted to share, and say the Magic Bullet is the best kitchen gadget I have ever bought!
