Default It finally happened to me.......

Many people on this site have told about this experience.....I have had a couple almost experiences, but not one exactly like this. But the other day...... it happened, and while it was happening all of you fellow RRers flew across my mind. I started to giggle and then outright laugh and the woman I was talking to just looked at me and kinda squinted her eyes and was like "what is funny"... "OK" - I said "nothing is...this is a serious subject"....and it was.
OK - I have been very open about the WLS at work and home and well everywhere. I have gotten many comments...mostly positive as this has been positive experience for me and I have had noticeable weight loss. OK... here is the kicker. A woman at work ( in the next office) was talking to me and said...." a fiend of mine had this surgery ...like you did...but it was the Band, when she had it put in she weighed well over 300 pounds and really needed to lose weight. Well it has been 8 months and she only lost 35 pounds...it didn't work for her ...and she has had so many problems and gets sick when she eats..etc.. I know I missed some more but OMG...
At that point I was laughing...I wanted to tell her why.. as she is a nice woman...but I did not and I got serious and told her that it was working and that is why she was getting sick because she was overeating...that the band is to make restrictions on how MUCH she eats and that she should have been given directions on WHAT to eat to lose weight and be healthy...etc... She said "OOHHHHH..that makes sense". She was going to talk to her about that.
Why oh Why would people get this surgery and take off work and pay this money for WLS and not get the proper instructions...or at least knowing you cannot eat the amount you used to (that got you in trouble in the first place) to eat less food but better food. Well that was my experience..............

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I 've heard of things like that. One woman, going for support for her friend of RnY. She was so happy at the amount of weight she loss, I understand that, but she said she had a fish burger about 4 weeks out. She talked about how sick it made her. I've heard of others going to have hamburgers, buns and all, on the band, that get sick and seem oblivious as to why they are feeling sick and gaining wait.
Things that make you say hmmm.

Not getting proper instructions or not listening to them/don't think it applies to them?
A sorry thing to hear.

Could be that her friend went to the band mill place such as 1-800-GET-SLIM. But even at my hospital's program, we have one woman who had gastric by-pass surgery, and could not resist the urge of eating steak, so she had one 1 week out. End up having emergency surgery to remove the steak.

That is funny, I think we have all heard those stories about how it doesn't work for somebody or their cousins sisters nephews aunts dogs former breeder had this surgery and now weighs 800lbs. Lol! You can't help but laugh and smile!!

BigFire- it sounds like she should have had some more counceling before surgery to help deal with her food issues. It's not a cure all, just a tool you have to use correctly.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I am 7 months out and just had steak for the first time this past week. I love steak, but didn't feel like trying it until then.

I haven't had my surgery yet. But I know I can't eat stuff like that. Wow that's just crazy.
