| Spices and the pouch HI WLS FRIENDS, I am almost 4 weeks out and now eyeing spices .... hoping to include them in recipes to bump up the taste and add some variation for me. I just got a recipe for Chicken Chilie-a new one for me. It has garlic, cumin and a jar of salsa in it... I am guessing I am wondering will my pouch tolerate this? The other ingredients, cannelli beans, broth, chicken... seem to be on the "ok" list for now. It also seems I talk to the pouch a lot.. think I should name the darn thing. Thanks very much. LOL! Good idea.
I can tell you from my experience, I wish I'd befriended my pouch years ago. It would have kept me from the slide.

No one knows until you find out for yourself. Everybody's is different. I can tell you, though, that I was using Tabasco again as soon as I got back on purees, and my pouch agrees with it. I have not found any spices I enjoyed before that I can't eat freely after.
YMMV. Quote:

I think there may be a moral to that little story if you look hard enough!

My pouch loves spices. I have enjoyed them since early out when I could eat solid protein. I always loved spicy food and worried that would have to end but it didn't. You know that every pouch is different and what works for one might not work for you. Give it a little try and see. I hope you can enjoy them again. Sure makes food taste better.

I'm Mexican. Until I was an adult, I was unaware that there existed "bland" foods.

As CT mentioned...It will depend on YOUR pouch...My pouch did fine and I was having Curry, cumin, coriander, cinnamon you name it once I was cleared for Purees.
I also love vinegar and Tabasco as well!
In fact using spices is a great way to, well..."Spice" up your purees and foods making it a lot easier to drink your shakes or eat your food (Since many post op people just don't ENJOY food as much and then back slide into eating "bad" carbs or sugars).
Always try a tiny bit of the new spice on something first, take a bite and wait a few minutes to see how it "sits"... If your to sensitive to it, you can re-try the spice again in a few months.
Good luck!
Warmly,
Jackie

| I am toying with Priscilla, or Picky as a name for the pouch. Actually she hasn't acted up too much, yet. I haven't ever eaten a lot of spicy food... but think it might really be a good change for me if it doesn't put me on fire. Thanks, "Guys."
